Getting both codes: P1706 and p1381 98 Ody

Hi guys! I'm new to the odyssey club. Woo hoo! I just bought a 98 Odyssey from a nice older couple who kept records of everything. We've had the odyssey for about a week and it just popped the code p1706 and p1381. It's a little strange that two codes would show up at once and I can't find anyone who has had both these codes go at once online- so here I am. Do you think it could be a bad connection? or the ECU? or a common sensor that would make both these codes pop at once? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

Hey Ollenberger - welcome to Odyclub ! Here is some information you may find useful:

P1706 Honda - Open in Transmission Range Switch Circuit
Possible causes
- Faulty Transmission Range Switch
- Transmission Range Switch harness is open or shorted
- Transmission Range Switch circuit poor electrical connection

P1381 Honda - Cylinder Position Sensor Intermittent Interruption


Possible causes
- Faulty Cylinder Position Sensor
- Cylinder Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Cylinder Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Alternator (diodes inside it can go bad and cause electrical interference)
On your engine the Cylinder Position Sensor is located behind the timing cover on the harmonic balancer end of the engine. The sensor is down low, but the wires to it come out from behind the cover and go up to a connector on the wiring harness.
