I figure I'd better ask this before I need to know... searched and didn't find what I was looking for. I have a 2014 with the smart key. If the fob is dead, I can pop the key out and unlock the door, but how do I start the car? I don't see a key slot anywhere.

Wow, I didn't believe it until I tried it. I have an Odyssey 2018.

Conditions: I pulled the battery out of the remote control.

Process:

  1. Pull out the actual physical key from remote.
  2. Opened the door manually (maybe that triggered something in the car to know I am using a physical key to open door).
  3. Placed the remote next to the car start button.
  4. Pressed the unlock key on the remote and the start button on the car at the same time.
  5. It actually started the car. (I took the batter out of my remote, so NO BATTERIES).

Hope this helps others when lit battery dead in your remote.

Just a quick word to the wise (from one not so)--be sure to put the key fob back in your pocket or purse after you start the van--don't just place it in the cup holder. I somehow managed to lock the fob in my other vehicle after its fob battery died--I forgot that I put the fob in the cup holder after starting the vehicle with the fob held near the start button. I pushed the lock button on the door after arriving at my destination and locked the fob inside the vehicle TWICE the same afternoon (okay the first time I had the fob resting on the dashboard by the speedometer, the second time in the cup holder). AAA bailed me out the first time, spouse the second time--at least AAA doesn't keep laughingly reminding me of the incident (or maybe I can't hear them laugh).
