(manual is in the car with the wife so no RTFM comments please :D )

I have the EX-L so i dont have the miles to empty, but after my gas light went on i went straight to fill it up and it took 18 1/2 gallons. So apparently the light should go on when you have between 2 and 3 gallons left.

Ours (EX) seems to kick in at about 4 gallons left.

That is very cool that 05' fixed the gas light. I just got back from a trip and driving for over 100 miles with the gas light on makes the light annoying and little worthless to me. My 04' gas light come on with around 5 gallons left in the tank.

Miles to empty

I too have the Touring and ran it til the MID said I had 10 miles left on range. Filled it up and it still had 2 gallons left in the tank. Evidently, range estimation is very conservative on this thing.

I am pretty sure there are some id...ts out there who would wait until it says "0 miles" on the range before start worrying about refill. Thus, the 2 extra gallons :)

I went for about -10 miles (The range is of course stuck at 0) and fill up the tank that took 20 gallons. So there is still one gallon in the tank when I was at negative 10 miles to empty. I knew it can goes beyond 0 mile because the previous trip I filled it up when the light came on and the mile to empty was at 22 miles and there was still over two gallons left in the tank. Full tank is 21 gallons by the way.

The gas light on my 04 is on more than the head lights
Not a good idea to have. You are running the risk of starving the fuel pump, thus reducing its life.

I usually start looking for a gas station (with competitive prices, along my usual routes) when the fuel tank being at 25%.

A while ago I've made a post, which created lots of criticism, about how in the new ody one can drive much longer (I believe I've calculated over 60% longer than 2nd gen) between refills. By fixing the "gas low" warning light to go off with 2-3 gals left, as oppose to 7-8 gals left, Honda gave us less frequent fill ups.

Hey WW, treat your Ody to an ultra-light custom gas pedal !! :stupid:

More seriously, my wife now drives the Ody ('till we find a buyer for the CR-V and get her an MPV), mostly numerous short trips, and her mileage is worst than mine, but not by a huge margin. Short trips also mean that the light can remain on for a week !

Same observation here. While her Camry is not in operation, she drives the Ody, and I noticed her mileage is much lower. I think the way she keeps the speed of the van by modulating the gas pedal made the transmission never locked.
The way I drive is to get to the highest gear quickly, and then keep the gas pedal the same pressure to keep the transmission in lock.
Also, I let go the gas pedal quite a ways from the red light as I know my Ody will keep rolling.

I mentioned to let go the gas to her but she is still afraid that it would make the car slow down too much. Her Camry is manual, thus engine braking is in effect if you don't press the accelerator.

My in-town MPG is 19.2, and hers is around 15.1

I get nearly 2 MPG better than my wife, driving the exact same routes in the same conditions. In my case, I accelerate faster, corner faster (don't have to re-accelerate as much) and will try to anticipate heavy traffic more than she does, often by deliberately running up closer to the car in front of me (more than she is willing to do) to give it the long opportunity to speed back up and reducing the amount of braking I have to do.

What was funny was that she gave a perturbed look one time when we filled up and I had the primary driving duties but had much better gas mileage. I told her to try driving the Odyssey like it was our BMW (which she zips around in), but not do anything outright dangerous. Just drive it fast, accelerate fast, corner fast, but still try and be smooth. Her gas mileage went up noticeably the next tank, but she said it didn't feel right driving that way in a minivan. Oh well. . .

How do you think I knew that I had 40 miles to empty? ;)

Well - in a round a bout way you guys answered my question ... on the Touring ... no light. No offense, but that's bad. What if I don't have miles to empty open? I know our '03 cried wolf way too early, but I want a yellow big a** light on to say "CHECK YOUR MILES TO EMPTTY STUPID" :D

I guess I am alone
