I got my Touring (Canadian version) a couple day ago and so far so good. Everything is working well and Honda got so many things right with this vehicle, EXCEPT the cup holders.

These things are literally the worst cup holders I've ever seen in a production vehicle. My family drinks a lot of water and we have a wide variety of water bottles - standard mouth, wide mouth, Kleen Kanteen, Yeti, Hydro Flask, etc. Our previous 2014 Odyssey had AMAZING cup holders that were wide enough to fit the wide large 32oz bottles but with the little flaps, they still secured the normal sized 20oz bottles just fine. They were large circular cup holders with the flaps that made them very versatile.

These new cup holders are HORRENDOUS. They square in nature (WHY) and are not versatile at all. The fit anything with under 3" in diameter. All those bigger 32oz bottles from Yeti or Hydro Flask. Forget it, won't fit (even though they fit the previous model). And those regular sized 20oz bottles? Yeah, they fit but they rattle around like crazy because of the square nature of cup holder. They aren't secure at all. Honda, these are CUP HOLDERS. I'm not sure what kind of cups they drink at the Honda head office but all the cups and bottles I drink from are CIRCULAR. Like WTF Honda, seriously. You thought through EVERYTHING in this van and it's SO great in SO many ways, but you overlooked the easiest thing ever.

Ugh, sorry. Had to get that rant out.

Otherwise, van is great. However... don't get me started on the weird and horrible resolution of the back up camera.

Just got an '18 Elite a few days ago and I totally agree that the cup holders have to be an afterthought. Just like my wife's 2010 Lexus RX450h - the only USB charge port is buried so deep into the center console you need a flashlight and several minutes to get multiple plastic sections out of the way to find it. I guess designers have bad days like everyone else.

Checked a few dozen accessory cup holders and found this one that I'm going to try - www.amazon.com/Wonderoto-Adjustable-Holder-Adapter-Multifunction/dp/B071CDHZH1

Here's a review - “Been looking for something like this for a long time; the factory cup holder in my Chevy HHR is practically useless - it sits too low between the seats, and is very small. Putting two drinks in it was a challenge, till this Wonderto cup holder came along. I had tried many cup holders, none I liked, was even getting ready to attempt to make my own, then spotted this one on Amazon. It fit the bill perfectly, with an extra silicone sleeve on the bottom (got from another cup) it fit snug in the original cup holder. I don’t use it like the instructions say - I use the top part as a cup holder, the part they say is for cell phone or glasses, and it works perfectly, even if you have a cup with a handle. I swivel it slightly to get away from the vehicle park brake lever, and it raises the height just right. I just ordered another to fill the second position in the factory cup holder. Now if the swivel point holds up, I will give it 5 stars. The swivel seems like the only possible weak point, but I don’t swivel mine to the max, so it should hold up just fine.”

The Honda designers seem to be choosing style over substance.
There is no style here, just a straight up cost cutting move. The old versatile cup holders required a complex holder containing four of those flappy moving parts. The new van just has a single molded piece of plastic without any moving parts at all.

Of course, with the old design, they can make a larger diameter cup holder which allows bottles of all sizes to be held securely. With the new cheaper design, you can't hold large bottles at all, smaller bottles will rattle around, and only medium sized bottle can fit well.

I have been trying to find something for the hydroflask bigger bottles. Thanks for the link. Report back your thoughts if/when you use the adapter. It looks to be a very high with the bottle in place.
Set them up and they are working great. Bottle sits higher but not too bad. It's pretty snug but easily removable if I ended up having a smaller bottle for a trip. For the BottlePro 2, I'm using the middle ring size with the foam insert for extra snug-ness. Thumbs up to BottlePro 2!

You're trying to put bottles in a place designed for cups. Hence the name "cup holders". There are pockets in the doors for "bottles".

I do agree that the new cup holders aren't as multi-functional as the previous generation.

Adapters are a pain. We've had a Touring for 3 weeks and altho it drives fine and does well on the road (except for mpg which sucks), there are enuf things I dont like about the 2018 Ody that this will be the last Honda I buy. Loved my CRX Si, Prelude Si, and '13 Accord EX-L V6, but this? No way, done. Should've gotten the Explorer.

I love these cupholders. I moved from an '05 which had absolutely terrible cupholders. Those flappy things theoretically adjust to all sizes but in practice fit nothing well. Every cup/bottle I used rattled around and tipped over.

This is my favorite:

I also use one of this style which fits nicely, too:

Yes, it would be awesome if everybody's favorite cup fit nicely in this car. But even a $20 water bottle is a drop in the bucket compared to the price of the car. Just go to Target or BBB or somewhere else with an easy and flexible return policy, buy a bottle that looks good and test fit it.

Came here to also vouch for the BottlePro for the 2021 ody. I was skeptical at first since the amazon listing says the holder needs to be a circular shape, but I tried it anyways and it works great. I use the largest ring with the foam insert (which is really a coozie lol). I recently upgraded from a '04 ody to '21 and was missing the larger cup holders for my nalgene. Thank you @ScottL !
