Hi guys,

We're looking to replace the entire sliding door on my father's 2001 Odyssey. The door in question is damaged/dented/rusting. Replacement doors in the same color are available cheap. Is this something we could undertake ourselves? I believe it is an LX trim with manual doors. I'm sure we could figure it out by looking at it...but was wondering if there were any gotchas as far as adjusting it to latch properly, if it has a cable (do only power doors have cables?), etc... This is just a station/utility car, but a new door would really be a "pick me up" for it. Also, I think one of the doors he located was from a 2000 model. I presume the door should be identical...but I'm not as aware as you guys may be on the subtle changes from year to year within the same generation.

I did some searching on the web before coming here...didn't really find anything useful.

Thanks!!!

Alex

I swapped out my rusted sliding door with a good one from the salvage yard. I have a write up here on my web site. Like you, I couldn't find much on the web for removing the entire door. The video above covers only about 1/4 of the job!
Unless you have to replace the center roller (did he call it a latch?!) you don't have to remove the inner back panel like Eric did. (And why did he remove the right panel when he was working on the left side door!) Wasn't too bad of a job, I removed the door solo but an assistant is required to install the new door.
I think the manual door does not have the cable, and I think the 99-04 doors are all the same. My salvage door was a matching power door (paint color was more important), but if you pick up a different power vs. manual replacement door, you might have to remove/swap parts from your original door with your replacement door.
