Hello,

I have a 2011 Odyssey EX-L. I'm in Canada and purchased the van new from a local dealership.

When I put in a DVD the player tries reading it for several minutes then displays the error "Check Disc". I tried several DVDs and still got this error. I blew out the DVD compartment with electronics compressed air and it didn't fix it.

My son loaded 3-4 DVD's into the player a few years ago and is dismantled the Audio/Visual stereo with the assistance of a YouTube video and removed the DVD's. The player worked fine till we returned from Vacation this summer when the van was stored for two weeks outside at the airport (it get hot here in summer, like 90F [32C]). I hoped the problem would go away but it hasn't.

The rest of the stereo works fine, CD, Radio, so on.

I purchased a USED stereo from a auto wrecker and plan to replaced the DVD module in my Stereo. Unfortunately the wrecker didn't provide the security code for the stereo otherwise I could just put in the entire stereo from the auto wrecker.

Has anyone done this themselves?

Any tips or thoughts on my plan?

Thanks in advance for tips.

Is there any way to get the VIN from the wrecker of the donor vehicle? A Honda dealer can look up the code with that.
Also, I thought the newer vans did not have audio system codes? Isn't there another way to unlock? Check your manual.

I posted this same issue and didn't get any responses. I tracked someone down on Ebay who rebuilds these DVDs but you have to pull out the radio box it up and send to them to fix. It's about $300 bucks + shipping both ways. Sadly, my kids learned to live without a nice TV inside this expensive van. Ask the dealer how to fix and they will refer you to a stereo shop who knows nothing. I just have the kids watch their Ipads with Headphones. Poor design on Honda.

My suggestion for this is, just replaced that DVD unit with a media player that runs from a 12v dc, it consumed less power than a DVD player, and those DVD disk you had just needed to convert to MP4 or AVI file and copy/paste it to a USB drive, easy and light to carry while having a lot of movies on it. Enjoy.

I’m experiencing this same issue. It’s been 1 year since I have used it. Currently running a portable DVD player from rear HDMI port. However would like to have access to the DVD from the drivers seat. Anybody send their DVD in for service either through dealer or mail in?
