I never experienced that issue after, I am thinking in my case it might have just been the exhaust cooling down making the cracking noise but I have to test again by making hard turns when reversing in either direction. Is that how to replace are it?

Here were the images they took of the joints that were causing noises on my vehicle (kindly provided by the dealer). The first one is looking at the vehicle from the front and the second one is looking from the rear towards the front of the vehicle (vehicle is on a lift).
The way it was described to me, the pieces of metal nest in each other and in my case were touching and flexing under steering inputs causing noises. I guess I could imagine these pieces of metal could vary in how much they touch and flex making different sounds depending on how much or where the metal touches when assembled (maybe a bad weld?).

Yeah, they finally traced it to a crossmember under the vehicle. I talked with two of the people at the shop that worked on my vehicle and one had pictures of what was going on. There is a spot under the body where two boxed pieces of metal overlap and they were rubbing when torqued from steering inputs.
The cross members don't move a whole lot but it would be like what I would imagine two moving tectonic plates would be like, slow and nearly imperceptible normally but when they bind they release "pressure" (in our case noises) suddenly or gradually. I suppose they could bind at full lock and make a clunk sound as well although I can't speak for others..
When I took our '12 Odyssey in, I told them exactly how to reproduce the clunk: drive in a slow LH circle, alternate between starting and stopping. $2500 and two lower control arms and left CV joint later, I took it to a parking lot and repeated the steps above. Not happy to discover that there is still a clunk in the steering column. I will show your post to the service manager if he replies to the feedback they solicited after my visit.

@ris002, please keep us posted (possible for picture of service invoice of parts replaced?). my dealer gave up & I was told they can't do much until enough cases for Honda Canada to issue a service bulletin which sadly might take a couple years.
I have no invoice for said repairs unfortunately. I have heard the sound a couple of times since this repair was completed, once with a friend who had never heard it before and he commented about it: ”What was that?” That was less than three weeks ago and nothing since then.
My dealership service advisor has texted and called me to get my vehicle in for the Honda rep to see and speak with me. I’ve had my odyssey in five times for this issue. Last take: Honda rep dispatched elsewhere so I haven’t seen him. Now, I’ve been attempting to get the clicking sound on start up only verified. Sounds like metal on metal that is not consistently reproducible.

I am going back and forth to the dealer 4-5 times. finally they told me it is the after market rims. Just wonder if any of you on after market rims.

RIS002, is you problem fixed?
For the most part YES. I’ve heard it a couple of times since the left strut tower assembly was replaced but the sound is just gone.
Now, I’m dealing with this metallic clink just on start up that is inconsistent but usually the first start of the day.
I’ve been very pleased with how my dealership has handled themselves and my complaints. I have been cordial and professional and they have commented to me that if these issues had been theirs on such a high end vehicle, that they would not have been as nice.

I’ve has in mine new 2019 since the first or second weekend. Heard it and scared myself and my son. Took it in last Monday. They said it was the top of the strut tower which they did something to and lubricated. I can’t attest to the sound resurfacing in the last four dats - yet.
I also have a 2019 with the same problem. Made 4 visits to the dealer. In the end I ended up Figuring it out myself it’s the core support in the very front end up with a vehicle look into it let me know what you think

I just bought a 2019 Elite last week and it just started making that same clunk spring type noise. I will take it in when first oil change is due. Hopefully someone can figure out a solution by then.
Update, for my situation what i found was the front left lower nut on the swaybar link was no where near tight. It was barely snug in comparison to the right side. I tightened it and reroadtest and my noise is gone and hasnt made any noise for the last 5k miles. Ive read through all these threads and i see that there are several different concerns going on. Figured i would give a heads up.

There is no one issue, everyone should check and richter bolts before replacing things. I don’t let dealer replace things unless it’s absolutely necessary because not all mechanics will put your vehicle together like it was from factory.

I’m a Michelin guy myself and replace tires almost exclusively with them.
I’m glad no other sounds have resurfaced. The service manager called me today to get my feedback on the repairs. I gave her what she wanted to hear - because it was the truth. She wanted to make me happy and offered roof rails for free. I added the cross bars and the chrome rear bumper protector. I’ll probably spend $600 in installation labor costs which will negate any good feelings. I was charged five hours labor just to install the door sill illumination and lower door chrome trim. Honda estimated time doesn’t exceed 2.0 hours for all of that combined! $463 for labor. 0800 - 1230 You tell me if you would not feel taken.
That being said, I’m overall ecstatic about this purchase - even without little ones around. Just me, my dog(s), and maybe the wife.
get the rails for free....and install urself. i installed mine in less then an 2hours. if not for slight miscalculations, could be shorter.
