I have a 2003 Odyssey. It has a radio with cd player. What is the best way
to get a mp3 player into the audio system? Is there a good phase locked FM
transmitter to use? I got a cheap FM transmitter that plugs in to lighter
but its really crappy and drifts of station every few minutes. Are there good ones easy to install? I assume they are hardwired and not just plugged into cigarette lighter.

my truck has an fm "modulator", which is different than the transmitter. It is actually hardwired to the car stereo at the antenae and sends it's signal in that way. My truck cd changer sounds great that way.

the cost of decent txmter or modulator is a big % of cost of a new radio with an aux input....if not the same cost....so it probably makes more sense to replace radio and then get the full fidelity benefit. FM limits high end to like 12Khz I think and low end too.

Definitely stay away from modulators if you care about audio quality. If you want to stay with your stock headunit...
Try this:

I have the steering wheel remote interface for aftermarket headunits from Peripheral. Works pretty well. Just had to reprogram it - not bad for over 3 years use.
