ok on email communications with geico executive support for claims but so far they aren't budging and told me i always have the option to pay the extra $400 to get the oem glass. Which insurance provider do you know are more open to doing OEM glass? in the future i'd like to get comparable quotes from them

Look at the glass. Lower corner generally. Mine has the actual manufacturer name below Honda.
I just looked at my glass and researched it some, amazing, it’s Fuyao Glass of America. Go figure, actually a Chinese based company, one of the largest in the world. If your glass has the FY on it that’s the Fuyao glass, they do have several plants in the US.

Hiding in plain sight!

Bugme: Amica went for Toyota glass on my 3 yr old Avalon.

It doesn't say the name, it just shows the logo. Kind of an easy trail to follow.

Same thing!

So does it still matter for me to insist on oem?

Also can you view the other pics where you see a scratch? Not sure how it occurred what is it possible to fix this on the rear glass without a full replacement

I just try to provide info and let people decide for themselves. But are you the type who insists on paying a Honda dealer 2-3 times the price at Rock to get the Honda logo next to the NGK logo on spark plugs?

A glass shop can buff out a shallow scratch, but these look too deep for that. Get a professional opinion though before replacing the glass.

If it's the rear glass that needs replacement, there aren't any cameras or radar or anything of the sort like the front windshield has, so I could see insurance flat out refusing to cover an OEM part.

^^^^ The man makes sense.

And so does Dave, especially if you have less than full glass coverage.

It would have been nice if Honda separated the camera glass from the main windshield glass so you could replace the windshield without having to recalibrate the camera. I am sure they look at this as a revenue stream but wouldn't this make more sense from a replacement standpoint? Chances are you would never have to replace the camera glass if they did this or ever have to deal with recalibration.

Honda is still putting belts instead of chains into the engines, long after most of the industry (including them on fours) has upgraded. Cost of maint is not anywhere near the concern that cost of production is. That's reality. Warranties and Hondacare gives them reason to have some concern for cost of mechanical repairs. Cost of installing two discrete parts, with the addition of some kind of support framework. Why would they want to?

Yup, I think all their competitors also integrate everything into the windshield too, so it's not like Honda's doing anything "worse" than their competitors in this case.

I had a windshield replaced on my 2018 VW Atlas, which has a windshield camera for lane-keep assist etc. I insisted on OEM glass; the installer (and internet) go back and forth on whether you need to get the camera calibrated after windshield replacement. I didn't get it calibrated and have had no error lights or issues; lane-keeping is still spot on. Theory is that the lower quality your windshield (e.g., non-OEM) the more likely it is that a re-calibration is necessary.

Back to the insurance and OEM issue -- you are insuring your car, which is built with Honda parts, correct? You're not insuring a vehicle comprised of aftermarket crap parts. Like I said, if you want a clear answer to the question (as clear as parsing the language can be), it's in your policy doc. But generally, you're entitled to OEM replacement parts under most policies (and certainly the bigger insurers like Geico).

Yes, even OEM glass needs camera calibration. It may or may not need adjusting, but the calibration will tell them.

Tell both safelight and Geico that you won't accept anything by 100% functionality of all systems in the car. Let me decide how they will get there. You should call Honda and ask them what the extra $400 gets you. Especially if the cheaper glass is made by the same company that Honda uses.

Also going through this, a rock chip in June spread to a vertical crack. Have Allstate. Told Allstate I have an acoustic laminated windshield from Honda and I also have 8yr Honda Care I don’t want to come back claiming no fault because of aftermarket windshield. They said that’s fine for OEM and will put that in with Safelite appt.
Safelite called me last week to let me know the Honda dealer had them on back order right now. Welp.

You may want to make sure the a/m glass will except the calibrations required. I say this because we had to replace the windshield in our 14 accord, and the insurance company said the same thing for us, but, our accord could only be properly calibrated with OEM.

I did some research and found info online about it, sent to my insurance company, which indeed had to concur with OEM. I’m not sure what the glass companies are doing for repairs today, just saying….
Calibration? We got our windshield in our 15 EXL replaced for $275. Lane detection shouldn't be in the glass. Maybe the side little windows? Is 18 different? Either way this will be our last odyssey. Good van but if I have to pay $1000 for a windshield and have it "calibrated" I'm out.
