Slightly looser is better at first for sure. You won't know you're over-tightening it until you actually over-tighten it, and then it's too late. Broken bolt heads/stripped threads are never fun to deal with.
After turning wrenches for decades, I've gotten pretty good at guestimating. Get it snug (both surface levels touching/flat and where you start hitting resistance), then about 1/4 turn more is usually right at the recommended torque spec. "good and tight" but not "gorilla tight".
Another tip is to consult the 3rd gen manual, which is readily available. Sure there's difference between them, but a lot of that non-critical stuff caries over and hasn't really changed between ANY production run. It's based more on bolt size/tensile strength with application/vehicle having little to do with it.
