I am the original owner of a 2015 EX-L Odyssey. I just had to change the vehicle's battery for the first time. Before getting the replacement battery, I realized that I probably need to have the radio code handy to unlock the entertainment unit after installing the new battery. Went thru all the paperwork I got when buying the Odyssey and looked around inside for a sticker that might have the code, but couldn't find anything. I'm pretty good with saving important materials like this so I don't think the dealership ever gave it to me.

After the battery was installed, I did initially see some kind of lock screen asking for a code on the entertainment unit's display. I turned it off and back on, and the lock screen somehow disappeared and I could use the entertainment unit fine. Maybe it was because I was holding the audio power button down for several seconds when turning it back on to see if that would work.

I thought I would try to get the radio code anyways from Honda Radio / Navigation Code Retrieval and Reset Instructions. It requires the serial # of the device, which I have no idea about. I looked at the instructions to get it from the display, which are the following:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads COdE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
  3. Turn OFF the device.
  4. Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.
  5. The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)
  6. And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example.)
  7. Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits

But these instructions don't make sense to me for a touchscreen unit, which requires the device to be on to access radio preset buttons that are displayed on the touchscreen. Do these instructions only apply to devices that have physical radio preset buttons? Is there another way I can get the serial # of my device in order to request the radio code from Honda?

Thanks for any advice.

You can disassemble your dashboard, pull out the stereo and find the serial number on the back of the unit. Then write to Honda and get a copy of a code that you will literally never use.

Or you can just use the "hold the power button down" functionality that 2014+ Odysseys have. There is no downside to using that.

Move on from the antiquated thought that you need a code for your (modern-ish) Honda radio. You already found out you don't need it for the Odyssey.

Hold down the radio power button a few seconds and it will reset.

Thanks for all the replies here. I got now that the radio code is no longer relevant for the recent gen models. I thought it was needed based on my experience with older cars. I wish Honda made it clear at Honda Radio / Navigation Code Retrieval and Reset Instructions which years and models still require radio codes. That site caused me confusion because the Honda owner's site links to it for getting radio code information.
