I've had my car a week and am still waiting for my NJ plates to arrive in the mail. In NJ, we require front and rear plates. However, I bought my Ody in PA where front plates are not required.

I just noticed that there is no place to mount the front plate. How is the front plate mounted to the car?

On my Civic and Accord, there were screw holes where the plate was mounted. I don't see that on the front Ody bumper. Is there a special mounting plate or bracket I need to get?

I removed mine and was very impressed how discrete the holes were. They are sort of underneath and behind (as I recall the screws go in at an angle). Once I removed it, I couldn't tell there had ever been one there. It's not on the front of the bumper and is not visible unless you are almost on the floor.

I had a similar situation - bought in PA and licensed in VA.

My PA dealer pre-installed a front license plate holder - bracket goes around and mounts under/behind the bumper cover. No holes in the finished bumper cover.

Have one ...

I have one on the Ody I bought this past Saturday (2/18), and don't need it. It will be removed. Would you like to buy it at dealer cost times 2? Kidding...

I'm going to take it off and see if I like it better off. I'm 99% sure I will. I wouldn't want to trash it or leave it sitting around though.

So, I guess the dealers have realized now, there is no need to drill the center hole in the front bracket anymore? My '05 came that way, so if I removed the bracket, there was an unsightly hole in the very center of the bumper.

I guess it depended on the dealer for the 05s, I removed the front license plate holder to install the McGrill and yes, there was a hole in my bumper right in the middle.

I glanced down at mine a few times and it looked to me like there was no screws attaching it to the bumper from the vertical area (visible area). Nothing was touching from my glance. And I could see that the bracket made an L-shape to attach underneath.

I'll have to check it more in detail when I remove it. Yikes, hoping there is no holes visible. :(

Our Missouri delivered '06 has a screw in the center of the bracket into the bumper cover. Since we have a front plate in California, it is not a problem and keeps the plate from vibrating.

Are you guys saying that the dealer drilled a hole into the bumper? Or there was a factory designed hole in the bumper?

I'm going to dealer this Saturday to get some fogging in the headlights looked at. I'm also having that droning noise at 2000 rpm's looked at.

I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GIVE ME THE LICENSE PLATE BRACKET TO INSTALL MYSELF!!!

That is insane to think that someone drilled a hole into the bumper to mount the plate bracket. If Honda techs are that stupid, then I'm never going to take my car back to a dealer.

Have you checked all the pockets in the van? Bracket may be stuffed in one, Rear armrest, spare tire well. I don't have an 06 so don't know where it has hiding pockets.

Doh! Ya know...I'll search the van today. It was a certified pre-owned 2005. It didn't occur to me that it might be in one of the gazillion storage compartments. For that matter, I don't think I've even looked in the lazy susan storage bin.

yes they drilled a hole into the bumper.... the screw is just biting into plastic and nothing else...

That's the way ours is. There is just a sheet metal screw which affixes the plate holder to the bumper cover. I do not imagine there was any drilling done. Our '01 did not have that screw, so I installed one myself and had a nice stable mount.

My Civic had a manufactured bump in the bumper with threaded holes. There were screw covers for states where a plate is not required.

I'll have to check my Accord now and see what it has. I'm sure that it was factory drilled holes.

I'm going to have to request the bracket but install it myself. I'll take a chance that the plate falls off rather than drilling a hole in the bumper.
