Hi,
I finally installed a TV tuner for my 06 ody EX-L RES NAV.
The installation is quite simple.
Total cost:
- XO XT3400 TV tuner: $50
- XO Antenna: $20
- Misc connectors: a few bucks
Installation:
- First I took out the AUX input/headphone unit from the 3rd row seat. It's a little bit tricky to pile it out. Just need some patient. Don't take any chance to scratch the interior trim.
- Then I soldered a video/LR terminal onto the exsiting one. (see picture) I did that because I want the TV tuner to be hidden rather that plug in the cable directly to the AUX input.
- After I resembled the unit and I brought it back to the ody to test it. But then I found out the audio input didn't work. (The video is okay.) After some intensive testing, I realized the original AUX audio input has a mechanism that it only activates when there is a physcial RCA plug inserted to the jack. Otherwise it won't connect. Rather hacking in the OEM AUX, I simply use a dummy RCA connector to plug in the L/R channel to make it "connected".
- The rest of it is pretty simple, just run the audio/video/remote wire from the left panel to the space where the jack and tools located. (take out the spare tire first)
- I used the existing 12V output from the trunk. I took out the harness and soldered the two wires to it.
- I didn't bother secure the TV tuner to the inner wall. I just hooked up the wire and placed it into the same compartment where the jack and tools located.
- Test drive it and it's working! (I'm still waiting for the antenna shippment to come. But I can view several channel pretty well without the antenna)
The whole project can be done in 1 hr.
