Recently we drove on the logging roads in the high mountains in the West Kootenays, BC.
It was an awesome expeirnece to drive Ody and "climb" the mountains while driving on old logging roads.

Odys bahavior and driving was perfect-
we did not experienced any problems.

Driving down -just on the first gear and almost not need to apply brakes.

Here are some shots taken during the ride on logging roads.

Haze in the air is a result of many forest fires in the area.

We used to explore logging roads with our Sequoia--I miss doing that. The problem with living in the lower mainland is that you usually have to drive pretty far to get to the good stuff.

I find that the clearance on the Ody to be really low. I find myself scraping the ground even in the "urban" jungle.

What kind of grades were you able to go on? Did you have to avoid any washouts as you got to the top?

Passing washouts on logging roads

Definitely you had more freedom in choosing wider area while driving Sequoia.

Your second photo showing passing a typical washout is the best example that it was obvious that Ody could not drive or negotiate any similar obstacles.

Both photos shows your passion and adventure to explore
areas typical for the "off the beaten path"!

However we found many BC logging roads in perfect condition.
(Mostly region of Castlegard, Creston, Nelson, Grand Forks, Vernon, Revelstoke and Golden)

I talk to forestry fellows and they told me that BC government
strongly encourage forestry operators to keep and service logging roads in almost perfect conditions after active logging.

Of course we use only those roads where Ody could pass and negotiate without any problem.

In the West Kootenays you may find majority of the logging roads
in great shape which was our case....
and open vistas plus photo opportunities unlimited to anyone who likes some adventures.

I have to add that some logging roads offers only the best access to regions or wilderness or remote mountains which otherwise would take days to hike there if you use official recommended routes.
