Hello All!

My family and I will be taking an approximate 4,000 mile round trip in a couple of weeks. As my wife and I have three children (ages 1, 2 and 3), we are seriously considering purchasing a cargo bag to place on the roof rack (Honda factory rack and cross bars). I have pretty much decided on the Thule Ranger 90 as we do not want a hard shell carrier, the Ranger 90 seems to be as waterproof as a soft shell carrier can be, it has a stiff bottom allowing it to sit on the cross bars (and not directly on the roof!), it is large enough to hold our double stroller (Duoglider) and the price is relatively inexpensive.

My questions are these, "Does anyone have any experience with the Ranger 90? And, if yes, would you please comment on the pros and cons of this cargo bag? Also, is the bag durable enough to withstand the abuse of 3,000+ interstate highway miles?

Thank you!

I haven't used a soft shell carrier, but one more thing you might want to consider on a long trip is security.

What items do you plan to store in it during your trip and will they be secure when you park and leave the van? How about overnight at the hotel?

Having a soft-shell that can easily cut through with a knife might mean storing your valuables in the room with you at where ever you are staying. How easy is it going to be to unload and load each day?

The primary item we plan on storing in the cargo bag is our double stroller. The rest of the items are shoes, clothes, towels, etc, which we will not actually need when travelling. In short, while we would be inconvienenced if these items were stolen or damged should the bag inadvertently come off or otherwise be damaged, it would not otherwise negatively impact our trip or cause lasting trauma.

The only issue with a roof top box is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER let a valet park your Ody!!!!!!!
