actually it's showing the SERVICE sign, not change oil...

problem solved!

For those who need to reset the past due service information:

1. turn the ignition switch to the OB (II) position.
2. Press the SELECT/RESET knob until the engine oil life indicator is displayed.
3. Press the SELECT/RESET knob for about 10 seconds. The engine oil indicator and the maintenance items code(s) will blink.
4. Press the SELECT/RESET knob for more than 5 seconds. The maintenance items code(s) will dissappear, and the engine oil like indicator will reset to "100."

Since that book solves soo many problems sooo quickly, it should be called the Owner's Auto, not the Owner's Manual! LOL

It happened to me twice with 2 different vendors. And now my engine howls badly at 5%. Message Change oil. The vendor(s) just took 50 bucks but DIDNOT change any oil. I called bank to take back 50 and will again. I have a trusted oil changer. Racism plays here. Police said bring it to small claim court if you have time

If your engine doesn't howl, your oil was already changed. The life oil odometer of Honda odyssey is only a mile counter, it does not analyze the oil to give result, many said so

How do you know he didn't change oil?? Was oil still black and dirty? Or maintenance indicator wasn't reset?

my car engine roars enormously right after the message "5%. Change oil" was up. It roars like a giant duck quickstepping. I recall hearing the same noise to some cars on streets before, mostly those cars belong to poor guys, almost jobless homeless. Then the fake "oil change" is just the last nail blasted onto the coffin. Nice system!

here the oil life indicator does work well, but the cheating vendors have way to cheat orally by "you did not pay enough to reach the manual setting stage". Then my indicator continued to work at 20% (when i decided to change oil) with me assuming he did change the oil like he said. Cost was $50. but today when i see 5% oillife. Change oil message, 1 minute after that my engine roars like elephant. I was driving at that moment. The engine has been noisy recently already. And now the roaring is nonstop. This just shows the Honda oillife indicator works fine. The dude just printed the bill and took $50. He didn't change any oil. The reason behind this was that I took a online discount of his company ($25 oil change). Other vendors quote "you are looking at $60 or $80" for an oil change. I will learn how to change oil myself better

I assume you know you have to manually reset the oil change indicator - it does not magically reset on its own.

What is the oil level shown on the dipstick?

Does the oil look clean and fresh from what you see on the dipsick?

Always best to change the oil and oil filter yourself. That way you save some money and know it is done correctly.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with your recent oil change. I suggest you take it to a different place or do it yourself.

As far as this "howling" sound you are hearing, I am not convinced it has anything to do with the oil change or lack of oil change. It likely is an entirely different issue.

Also learn how to Check your oil- what is the level on the dipstick and the color of the oil?
If the oil color is black- that would be your proof that the oil was not changed! Not the Maintenance Reminder.
Read your Owner's Manual. It shows you how to Check the Oil, and how to Reset the Oil Change Reminder.
Howling like an elephant or a duck is not directly related to changing your oil. Is it "roaring" because the throttle is stuck open? What does your tachometer show?

I was driving when the engine began to soar enormously by itself. It was the first time it did that. Coincidently, the message "Oil life 5%, change oil" just came up moment before that. I still remember that location. I was about to enter freeway! Now engine has cracking sound when I leave it idling in garage.

the color of my engine oil on the dipstick is dark yellow. It is not black yet
