Well,

I was just washing car.... opened door to dry roof. crack, pop, bump, beep.

It looks like the rear door support used to have two guide wheels. I say used to b/c the front one is gone... just the bare metal post the wheel rotated around is left.

Anyone know how to get this part off?

My thoughts are:

1) remove body trim panel

2) support rear of door w/ jack and protective barrier in order to prevent scratching paint.

3) replace rear door support. If I'm careful, it will grab onto the drive cable at same place and still be in "calibration".

I did some searching and found that the 99's had door latch recalls. I believe that's this part I'm talking about? If so, I may be in luck if previous owners didn't get recall filled.

Other searching hasn't turned up any instructions to help. Has anyone tried removing the sliding doors?

edit: Of course, I could just be the only one that is too cheap to spring for a manual. That may change Monday. Dealer parts dept decided they didn't want to work Saturdays anymore. :stupid:

well i must be a newbie. caught the hint after seeing 32 or so views w/o reply.

found these with just a "door" search of this forum

http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23898&highlight=door

I also came across instructions for cleaning contacts and troubleshooting main door drive motor as well as the "closer motor".

If I wind up doing the work myself, I'll post instructions here as I still didn't come across anything online. Just references to Haynes or Honda manual. My family may not allow time to tinker though. 3 boys all under 6 are a handfull :p

Instructions

The following instructions have been combined into one nice word doc. Jump to post here

Thanks vangrrl and dvpatel!
***********************************************

I needed to fix the driver's side sliding door center bracket. As described above, one of the guide wheels disintegrated. This is a one piece deal from dealer. No replacing just the wheel.

These are highlights from my experience. I had only a Haynes manual at the time (pretty worthless IMO but I needed to get the job done before leaving on vacation -- I have since ordered the Helm's manual).

1. remove the sliding door. Haynes manual covers this pretty well. You'll need a helper. Don't bother with a jack.
1a. Remove the plastic floor moulding. Unscrew and remove the stop spring at bottom.
1b. Before you take the door off, mark location where center bracket mounts to door. Also be sure door is completely open before unbolting the center bracket. Take note of where the bracket is in full open position. This may allow you to get away w/o having to re-calibrate the door.

2. remove sliding door rail cover (body trim piece)
2a. Remove bolt that is visible sitting in open doorway facing towards rear of vehicle.
2b. Remove the screw behind the brakelight. (The brakelight has two screws at the rear under plastic covers and a male/female connector towards the front)
2c. Slide the rail cover towards the rear of the vehicle to disengage the mounts. (see pic)

3c. unbolt seatbelts, remove speaker
3d. unscrew, unhook, whatever at the various attachment locations identified in the pic. I believe I have them all.
3e. remove interior panel. It helps to fold the rear seat down. Optional is removing the interior trim in the "seat well" along the bottom of the rear door. This makes removing the panel at that location a bit easier.

4. slide center bracket out of rail by hand. Use masking tape or duct tape to prevent scratching paint.

5. release tension on bracket pull cables by pulling out and twisting as depicted below. (Hook 'em Horns!)

6. replace the part. The cables pop out like brake cables on a bicycle.

7. reapply tension to the cables and slide the bracket back into location it was at in full open position. (don't forget to insert the stop like I did)

8. put everything back together inside. Then get a helper to mount the door.

9. test it out. mine did not need recalibration as I had expected so I can't help anyone who runs into this problem.

Hope this helps.

2+ year old thread, and it's exactly what I need. Screeching noise from the passenger side sliding door, found half a roller and pretty much knew what needed to be done just not how to do it.

Thanks, batchman!

P.S. I've pulled all the instructions and photos into a 4-page Word document, so may post them as a PDF for ease of downloading and printing.

could be any number of things... does the door seem to close all the way so it is even with body? if not, could be closer motor issue. This particular thread dealt with broken middle door support guide wheels. Very noticeable in that door would not open/close w/o someone helping it. good luck.

Batchman,

Thanks for the instructions and pics. They helped alot with the replacement of my center roller. However, I am still having problems.

Where did you find instructions regarding releasing the cable tension? I seem to be having problems with the cables and I am curious how this drum is supposed to work.

When I try to close the door, the cable from the rear seems too tight (like guitar string tight) and the door stops short. I can force it closed and the latch motor does engage and pull it closed. However, it seems to be under pressure. When I open the door, it really pops. It will then open almost all the way, but stops three or four inches before reaching fully open. All the motors seem to be functioning.

It is possible that the cable is messed up on the spool? When I insert my fingers and pull the drum and turn, it just clicks if I turn it clockwise, and it actually moves the door if I turn it counter-clockwise. How is it supposed to work?

Any info or links would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading threads all day and have not found much dealing specifically with these cables.

Vanguard,

Sorry for delay in responding - hurricane evac. Luckily it passed us by.

You (-er your door) probably needs recalibration. At the time, I think I had purchased the haynes manual for this specific job. I was able to "wing it" on previous tasks.

I have since sold my 99 EX but may still have the shop manual. If I do, I'd be happy to fax/email you the pertinent sections.

Sliding Door intermittant handle

My 99 Ody right power sliding door functions mechanically great and latches fine. It operates perfect from the driver control buttons without fail. The problem is that the inside and outside handles only activate the power CLOSING intermittently. Both handles OPEN the door the first time (no problem there. Any help would be appreciated!

That sounds like a contact / switch issue inside the sliding door. I imagine the inside/outside handle are activating the same contact for door closure, but the switch is not always making adequate contact. You'll have to decide if you want to tackle it by looking at the innards of the door and finding / replacing the switch contact, or just take it to the dealer and have them tear it open for you.
