Before changing oil, do you run your engine for couple of minutes to warm up the oil? If you do this, the oil will drain much faster. Of course it will never be as fast as without the valve, but thats the convenience you get :)
Agreed, with the valve you can do smoking hot oil changes for faster flow. The filter will need some time to cool a bit, I always wear rubber gloves so hot oil is no problem.

It is slower with the valve. I usually go inside and watch the game or the race for 10-15 min and go back out and shut the valve off- no issue with slow flow with the TV on.

The only way the warranty would be voided is if you hit some road debris that some how hits the valve and rips a hole in your oil pan. This would not happen with a normal drain bolt but your pan could still have a hole knocked in it. [/B]

If you hit something and break the oil pan Honda won't warrent it with or without the valve as it is collesion damage. Look at all the people here that took out their A/C Condenser with a rock and were refuset warrenty coverage.

Exactly, as stated without the valve and a normal drain bolt a hole can be knocked in the pan and it will not be covered, collision insurance would come into play there, not the Honda warranty. Point being, the valve is an appendage sticking out that might be slightly more prone to getting hit by debris-a non concern for me .

I recently purchased a Fumoto valve for my '08 and was having trouble installing it even with the extension. The website I got it from "LubricationSpecialists.com" said it would NOT fit an '09, but it didn't say anything about the '08.

Blakeas, could you elaborate on how you managed to squeeze it in? Was there any damage to the oil pan? Stripped threads, as far as you know? I wonder if there is a way to shave off a little bit off the valve.

They posted the "will not fit" too late !

When I wrote to them with this problem I got this reply:

The ADL is the longest extension we have. You could put the ADP106 on
top of it, however the ADL has always worked.

Greg

Clearly it does not- Wasted my Money!

Wow, that is very similar to the response I got when I called them.

They said they never had anyone contact them regarding problems with the 08's. He also said I may be able to put the ADP106 and make it work, but I would have to pay for shipping, so $9 total. And there are NO guarantees.

Also told me to send him a picture of the oil pan so that way he can give me a better indication as to whether or not the ADP will help me. Then, he said, we can discuss "other options." Whatever that means.

I have an '09 Odyssey, '09 Civic, and '06 Civic and have the fumoto valve on all of them, it makes changing the oil much easier, I don't worry about damaging the threads on the oil pan, don't have to install a new washer everytime, and torque the bolt. If the valve were to fail, I would hope I would notice the spot under the car, the oil light go off, etc. Before the fumoto valve, I used the Fram suredrain valve, which was better then using the plug, but not as good as the fumoto valve. For the '09 Odyssey, if I remember right, I put the adapter on first and then put the valve on, it was a close fit. You might be able to use a thicker washer, such as the normal aluminum washer instead of the paper washer the fumoto valve comes with if you need a little more room. As far as the warranty was concerned, you can keep the oil drain plug and reinstall it if you are worried about it. I seriously doubt any Honda engine is going to give you problems in the first 60,000 miles anyway. I use non-Honda oil filters and non-Honda oil, etc. I have never had any problems with the engine on a Honda, just transmissions.

Fugedaboutit

I bought one for my 09 Touring.

Had prior experience with my 06 AcuraTL- slow drain, but functional.

Wouldn't fit! Fumuto said they had no problems but has now updated their site to state that it will not fit on 2009 Odyessy.
So the question is moot- It DON'T fit !

Money down the hopper!

I'm going to try to put one on my 2010. On my 2006 I found stripped threads after a dealer oil change. I really don't want that to happen again.

I can give it a good home if you so choose.

:stupid: :D :stupid:

I have had mine on my 06 after the second or third oil change.

I personally love it. When the car is up on the driveway the first oil change I did was on a windy day. What a mess that caused when the wind took the oil and sprayed that little stream all over the darn place. With the fumuto I attach a clear hose and let her drain into an oil pan. In the mean time I move the pan over to the oil filter and let the oil pan catch the mess when it comes out.

Its nice to be able to drain the oil from the oil pan nice and hot without burning some skin off or dropping the nut in hot oil.

I use Fumotos on my 04 and 08 Subie OB. One of my best mods in terms of usability. As posted earlier, hot oil makes for a better drain and this is worth the "price of admission":

Ok, as an 09 Owner, I can't use it. So I won't order it. Can someone tell me why? Is the oil pan different? If so, was it an improvement over the other 05+.

I assume 10 is the same as 09.

So it's clear that we (09) can't use it. So this is more of an oil pan design question.

TIA

Update on 2008 Fumoto Application

I went ahead and ordered the ADP adapter (the shorter one). I put both adapters on there and it actually fit quite nicely. I have been driving around for about 1 month and have had no leaks. I'm looking forward to my first fumoto oil change on the Ody. I already have one on my '03 Accord.

So if you really want to give the Fumoto valve a try you should order the extra adapter. It sucks that they don't have better application charts or more knowledgeable staff. But for me it is definitely worth it.

I have used Fram SureDrain valves for years. Have one on my 2001 and 2005 Toyotas and they work perfectly.

I installed one in the 2007 Ody and it fit perfectly as well.

The SD2 model

Since I have only done ONE oil change on the Ody, I have not actually completed a change via the valve yet.

The first change was to install the valve. I will actually do a change using the valve here in 2-3 weeks.

I have no reason to think it will be any different than on the Toyotas I have done 100's changes on using the suredrain.

Just an option for those of you that can't get the fumoto to work.

Did I read this right? You're using BOTH the ADL and ADP adapters and then the Fumoto valve?

So it goes oil pan-ADL-ADP-valve?

Any chance you've got pictures?

I have the valve on a different vehicle with the one long ext. I can't imagine adding yet another ext. It is a nice product though.

Yes. That is correct. The guy said this was a recommended setup, but anything beyond this (more adapters) and they were not responsible for any problems.

I don't have any pictures, sorry. I can take some the next time I get under there, but it won't be anytime soon.

Thanks, I will be looking into ordering that additional adapter. Sucks that I'll now have to pay additional shipping to get this thing installed but I guess the amount of time and more importantly mess it'll save should be worth it.

Sidebar...the more oil changes I do the messier I get. Weird?!?!

I hear ya! I thought the same thing. I guess you could call them and ask for a discount or something, since their application chart says it should be compatible.

On your sidebar: I think maybe you're hesitating more, perhaps in anticipation of the mess you'll make? Just a thought.
