My Dealer wants $120 US to replace my PCV valve. That's gotta be ridiculously high.

One internet link says it's located next to the Oil dip stick; held on by a bolt and mounted 90 degrees to it. I must be blind.

Anybody have more detailed info or a picture of the location. PCVs for earlier models are $3 - $9 at the parts store but they don't have cross-reference for 2007 yet.

Thanks for any assistance.

The PCV valve location on a 2007 Ody is between the engine oil dipstick and the ignition coil. It is held in by a bolt. Remove the engine cover and you will see it.

This is an easy replacement, so $120 for replacement at the dealer is indeed ridiculous.

First off, why do you need to replace the PCV valve?

To check its operation, you will need a stethoscope. At idle, listen to the PCV valve as you lightly pinch the PCV hose (which is the hose that is above the PCV valve and runs to the intake manifold) with your fingers or pliers several times. Each time the hose is pinched, the valve should click.

If there is no clicking sound, check the PCV valve grommet for cracks or damage. If the grommet is OK, replace the PCV valve and recheck.

Still can't locate PCV Valve

Can you send a picture of where it's located? Thanks.

CYLINDER HEAD COVER (1). Fits: Odyssey | Sons Honda

Number 9 in the picture.
OEM parts is about $24 plus 0.5 hour labor at $100/hr + other overheads + profit ==> $120

Why did dealer say PCV valve had to be replaced ?

Thanks for the link to the picture TXN
Here's a "permanent" link in case Sons Honda removes the picture: (#9 is the PCV Valve)

The physical replacement of the valve takes less than 5 minutes. It sounds as if your dealer does not work for less than an hour labor.

Is it the same for 2006 Ody EX-L?

The van is 7 years old with 76K miles on it. The van never consumed any oil up until this last change where it was about a 0.75 quart lost over ~8K miles or so plusd the oil was much darker than I have ever seen on my van. Gives about 17-18 city and 20-21 freeway.

The PCV valve is so cheap, might as well just replace it if it's very easy to do.

Just wanted to report back in case it helps others...

I finally got around to looking at the PCV valve. Wanted to give it one more Oil change and observe the consumption before I start tinkering around.

~5K miles on the oil, I have about half a quart of oil consumption (the level dropped from the high mark to half way between the high and low marks on the dip stick). While this level of oil consumption is not too concerning and will be completely acceptable to many, this van has never had any consumption at all over OLM oil changes.

Another observation was that the oil started getting darker by around 2K and is now quite dirty although it is not burnt!

Took the PCV valve out and it was not gummed up but dirty! I could hear the rattle but only intermittently. The new one was much more rattly. I still want to give this oil fill about 1K miles and want to do a fuel line cleanup, so instead of replacing the PCV valve at this time, I decided to clean the current one up with a brake parts cleaner. I removed the O-rings first (the larger one was good, the smaller one seemed to be much more compressed) and then cleaned up the valve body using the spray. Initially the spray cleaned up the lose oil, but a few sprays later I could see solid particulate debris on the paper towel.

After letting the valve body dry, I put the O-rings back on and oiled them up. The cleaned valve was just as (or maybe a bit more) rattly as the new one now and is back on the van now for the next 1K miles.

I intend to do a few long drives to heat up the oil and let it's finish its cleanup job after the previous extended drain and let the techron concentrate do its work. I will then replace the valve, oil and filter and hopefully that should take care of the minimal oil consumption that the van currently experiences.

Just curious how your results have ended up dgsbikes?

Results ?

Well what were the results of the PCV valve test ?
