That reminds that I received a pretty good email quote from an Atlanta dealership, only for them to tell me on the phone that the email price didn't include dealer-installed "features," including a pinstripe (because apparently minivan buyers care a lot about appearances) and nitrogen-filled tires (because apparently 78% nitrogen in plain old air isn't enough). They lost my business then and there over that silliness.

The Odyssey looks really classy in white.
one of the dealers I spoke with gave me a good price quote, but then told me I had to take a mandatory "enhancement package" consisting of pinstripes, door edge guards, and a rear cargo tray for around $500. I believe the total cost for those options is about $100 if you buy on-line.

He then proceeded to tell me that every Ody he sells goes out the door with body side moulding, all-weather floor mats, and roof rails, quoting me prices that were 50-100% more than the cost of the items on-line. Obviously this was a big turnoff.

The dealer I ended up going with did offer an option to buy any 3 exterior accessories for $500 installed, but didn't push it very hard. He also threw in wheel locks (the first dealer wanted to charge ~$100 for those).

I was kind of amazed given that I was dealing with the Internet sales manager, you would think he would know better since his customers know how to use Google. :)

The best deal I could get in Atlanta last week for an EX-L with no RES or NAV was $33,417 + TTL. That was from one dealership out of a dozen; no one else would come even close. Most of the others were quoting MSRP. I don't know how many Honda dealerships there are in the Minneapolis area, but in the current market, it seems like any price below MSRP is pretty fair. To me, it wasn't worth waiting several months to save (maybe) a thousand dollars.
Thanks for the reply. I agree and we are most likely taking delivery on a 2011 next week. If not the next available delivery date is the end of August and I already sold the van we currently drive. This is definitely more than I would like to pay for an EX-L as normally waiting until the end of the model year has paid off for us in the past.

FWIW in the D.C. area it seems to depend on color. I could have saved at least 500-$1k if I was willing to take white, silver or red. Blue, Mocha and Topaz are very difficult to find and the dealers aren't going much under invoice on them.

Most of the inventory must be in the D.C. area. The inventory levels here have gone to zero and are getting more scarce every day. Some people are taking any color they can get but it seems 0.9 brings people out of the woodwork.

The dealer we bought from had 7 in stock on Monday, sold 5 on Tuesday, and was down to 1 after we took ours. .9% is keeping them busy.

Hi - Shopped this weekend over the Internet for a new 2011 Touring here in Eastern Massachusetts. Was surprised by the low quotes given other people's experiences. Lowest quote I got was $37,350 for Touring (including destination).

Went to the dealer that actually had the color I was looking for (many dealers had none), and they agreed to $37,500 plus tax, title, and documentation (with wheel locks). Didn't really even have to negotiate. Thought this was pretty fair. Hope this helps.

Which Dealer

We recently bought an EX-L with Navi (4/16/11):

Negotiated price: $34,122 (incl destination)
Sales tax (CA): $3,161.37
Doc fee: $55
DMV electronic filing fee: $29
License/Registration/CA tire fee: $502.75
Trade-in: -$14,600

Out the door: $23,270.12

I negotiated via email starting with ~10 dealerships and kept going until nobody would beat the lowest price. I insisted on no dealer accessories before I came in which was agreed to. The car turned out to have the wheel locks and door edge guards already installed so they kept them on but didn't charge.

Which dealer in the Bay area?:)

Excellent deal. Great Job!

Price for a New 2011 before I write check

Hello, We have been quoted 28, 653.38 plus TAG for an LX White

This will be our third Odyssey. Our 2006 is in the driveway with 150 thousand miles on it-- the only major repair was this year so we need to update. We have a second child starting college (and one in college) so we feel we need to not look for extras. Just want a releable car for a good price.

The selling price is 26,261.00

dealer fee is 699.00 (I would like to know what this is)

battery fee 6.50 (seems silly)
tag agency fee 40.00
electronic filing 24.99
Tax 1621.89

What do you all think. Edmonds lists the TMV lower at 27,167- they give a base price of 26,432 plus a destination fee of 810 plus adjust of 75 for our area.

Does anyone have an info or advice? I am off this week end so we probably will be looking to buy now.

Thanks, Maggie:)

Irish Tammy,

That price seems pretty fair from what I have experienced. I was searching and getting quotes for the first three weeks in june and came up right around there for price. I ended up paying 28920 plus doc fee for everything out the door. So you are right around that ball park. I would jump on it.

Addendum to price for car

I just found out that the 6.50 is from the state. Another Honda dealer called and they have a 1000 higher price with
589.50 dealer service fee-- this includes PDI he states.

They also have an 89 dollar tag processing and 150 dollar tag transfer
for a total price of 29,712.90 that the other post does not.
The first dealer comes out lower though.

Any advice?

Maggie

That's what they charge you for having the dealership business guy/gal do the paperwork. Including the DMV transactions they're already charging you separately for. "Ridiculous" is what I'd call it. As margins have gotten squeezed, dealers are increasing this charge to egregious levels. It's rare anymore to find this in the $99 - $199 range. At $699, it definitely falls into the "junk fee" category.

Can the dealer be negotiated down on the junk fee? Or can a rebate be had? Does anyone think the 0.9 percent will carry on past 07/05/11?

Thanks
*Everything* is negotiable, the trick is arriving at a price that is acceptable to both parties. It all boils down to having a price in mind and working toward it - and resolving beforehand whether or not you'll budge from it, by how much, and at what point in the discussions (e.g. do you have the stamina to go two or three hours toe-to-toe)

Rebates and incentives are generally available online. Try

I would check with your local DMV on the tag transfer just to check to see that the dealer is charging you the actual price and not more on order to make a few extra bucks.....those final numbers sound fair...just double check the others to keep them "honest"....
