Hi,

I have a big problem! I, let me phrase it that way, used the wrong cleaner and not only removed the dirt but removed some of the black finish as well :-( I really felt like my stomach turned upside down :-(

Is there a way to fix that??? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!!

Please help!

Niels

You discovered the hard way that the dash is painted and the only fix is to repaint the area affected. The best way to fix it is to take it to a detail shop that does that kind of work. It shouldn't be real expensive, likely $50-$75.

Thanks for the reply! So I might call the Honda dealer on Monday if they know a good body shops that repaints dash boards. Or I might call some body shops myself.

Really hope it's not that expensive :-( I didn't thought that the surface is that sensitive....

Just to clarify, it won't be a body shop type of repair. It will be a shop that does interior like carpet and upholstery dying and repair.

You should have stick to swiffer duster only.

I had a dashboard cleaner with me as well... But I was in a hurry and I had the wet towel with another cleaner which I used on the window to remove a sticky glue residue and didn't thought that this could happen... Just wanted to wipe up the dust...

I have tried Armor All to refresh the colors but didn't work. Is there something like a black paste you can use maybe for bleached out colors caused by the sun? Like leather treatments for shoes.

Thanks for the idea with the cover. But that's (unfortunately) not an option.

Hi,

Would Forever Black be an option? /www.foreverblack.com/products.html

Geez!! That stuff took the surface off like sand paper!

You could try a spray paint intended for plastics and coat it yourself if you wanted to save money. Or like suggested, just get an aftermarket dash cover. Or scuff the whole thing and call it matte black! LOL

Rockwood is referring to my original suggestion that you have it professionally repaired at a place that does that kind of repair.

I wonder if maybe the bumper & trim product from Forever Black might work. It is identified as a dye, so that might do the trick. You can buy it on Amazon for around $15, so if it does not work you can always go back to having it repaired professionally if it doesn't work. Please post here if it does. I have a small spot that I have lived with for the last few years because it is not bad enough and the hassle of prying the car loose from my wife is too great. Dealerships have vendors that make the rounds and do this kind of repair working right out in the parking lot, but they are typically only at each dealer for a few hours each week.

I did not notice before that you are in Germany. I can't imagine that there are not places to get this type of repair done there also. Good luck!

It's not that easy to find a place here in Germany as it is in U.S.... Here there are no detailers... Or just a very few. Mostly the work is done by paint shops. Or some specialized companies.

Anyway... I found a company that might does repairs like this. I will see what they can do. Otherwise I will use Forever Black and hope it will do the trick... Somebody ever used it on a dashboard?

"Please Note: Forever Black Bumper & Trim Dye is intended for porous, textured surfaces. Smooth plastic, vinyl, and rubber may not be able to absorb the dye and it will therefore streak." So it might not work on the dash board :-(

True, but what do you have to lose? I would give it a try personally. Something like that was my first though once I saw the pic you posted. Just out of curiosity, what was on the rag that caused that?
I didn't know our dashes were painted. I never had any issues with my '03, and just recently bought a '10. I only use 303 though.

I think it was caused by the isopropyl alcohol in the product.
I just tried deep cleaner but no success. Currently the best "cosmetic" cover up is Armor All Original Protectant.
It's not 100% gone but it doesn't look that bad.

I think I'm going to order the Forever Black.
