So in answer to my own question here is what I did. I purchased a 3/8" steel bar from Home Depot, cut it to 14", drilled a 3/8" holes at the rear of the driver and passenger rear seat mount mount covers about an inch from the floor and inserted the rod between them. This allows the console to be latched onto the bar using the stock latching mechanism. I have temporarily put a piece of 2x4 under the front to raise it a little - just laying the whole thing ended up with it being too low for my taste so this approach raises it a little. So the console is affixed but easily removable. Now I need to put some dividers in the storage space to add a bit of organization. Overall a great improvement to the OEM folding tray.

Strange - when you look at thE tray after its removed, its strangely over-engineered, very heavy but strangely non-functional also. Definitely a design fail by Honda

I just bought this OEM console from the ebay auction listed and it fits nicely. Have removed the folding tray and test fit the console.Like others I'm trying to figure out how to attach it. I'm thinking of using the existing bar attachment mechanism. Above its stated the bar fits between the passenger and drivers seats. Not quite sure how. Any more detail can be provided?

Another option is to use the three bolts that held the folding tray and drill corresponding holes in the passenger side of the console or attach a piece of wood to teh three bolts and then in turn attached that to the passenger side wall of the new console.

May come up with other alternatives. Only problem is my wife rode off in the car and I can't now examine it to figure the best way!

Listing says it is compatible with my 2009 Odyssey and I hope that it is with minimal trouble.

Does anyone know if it's safe to screw into the floor under the tray?

Would you be willing to take a couple photos of your solution? I have not had the time to install mine but I was going to bolt a metal angle and a plywood base to the existing bolts that held the tray.
Your's sounds like a better solution but I'm wondering where and how exactly you screwed the bar to the seat mounts. Also curious about the position of the console.

Here are some quick pics. Hope they help. Basically drill two 3/8" holes (to match the steel bar) in the plastic rear lower seat covers and put the rod thru then and then use the rear moveable 'clamps' controlled by the front handle on the console. I also trimmed about 1/8" inch of the rubber buffer that pads the bar in the clamps - its designed I guess to make the console only clip in when pressure is applied but it was too much pressure required for my taste.

Its just press fit into the plastic. The plastic seems pretty rigid. it might not hold if someone stood on the console but hopefully my kids are beyond that. Reinserting the center plastic piece removed when the folding tray was removed helps make the plastic more rigid by tying it all together. also if you were so inclined you could but a piece of wood under the rear of the console for extra support but I didn't think it was necessary

I'm not trying to replace the console or anything, just want to take it out to do a good cleaning. You can see plenty of stuff (french fries, crumbs, etc) in the hinge area between the passenger seat and the hinge. I saw the pictures that are linked on Front Seat Tray Removal Photo Gallery by Whiz at pbase.com but can't make it past the very first step, un-snapping the plastic covers. I was expecting them to flex a little and allow me to get a flat-blade screwdriver in between to un-clip them, but they're together tight !

Any tips ?
