  1. What are the best replacement Wiper Blades?

    General Discussion
PIAA and Silblades both use silicone rubber as opposed to natural rubber. I used Silblades on my Ody, my Escort and my Mazda3. All lasted about 4 years. On my Saturn Outlook, Silblade did have blades to fit so I went with PIAA and so far they've performed equally well. The Silicone blades...
  2. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Just did a nice round trip with the camper from central OH to the Michigan UP. Towed like a dream, much more solid than the Ody. When in tow mode, it would stay out of 6th on it's own much of the time, didn't feel the need to do it myself (although I did for a time.) In fact, it did so well...
  3. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Oh yeah, I made sure it had the V92 code inside the glove box door indicating the factory tow package. Saw others on various forums get burned by buying first then trying to add the tow package later. You can add the hitch & a trans cooler, but that doesn't increase the base tow rating from...
  4. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Sometime during the 2009 model year, they bumped from 4,500 to 5,200. I liked that I can get the full towing capacity with FWD, with the Pilot you have to get AWD and loose a few MPG. The GMs are better equipped for towing too and have more room inside.
  5. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Actually, the Outlook will tow 1,700 more than the Ody and 700 more than the Pilot. The Pilot has to be 4WD to get the full 4,500 lb capacity, the outlook will tow 5,200 with the slightly more thrifty FWD. I thought hard about a Pilot, but the third row is tight and there is very little...
  6. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Well, I wasn't planning on leaving the site, but realities of life and all I'm not likely gonna be back very often. Not going to cancel my account or anything though. :stupid:
  7. Ody No More

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Well, we've moved on from our (mostly) faithful 1999 Ody EX. Coming home from our memorial day camping trip, 4 bikes on the roof and trailer in tow, I noticed the revs climbing but not the speed. Big time uh-oh. I downshifted into D3 and limped off the exit ramp that was just ahead. At the...
  8. 150,000 Mile Club. Share the Joy

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Well, at about 203K, towing my camper home from the weekend, our transmission started slipping badly. Limped off the highway and had it towed to the Acura dealer where my buddy is the service manager. He found a leak, which he repaired, but also found the fluid very black. Said the tranny is...
  9. 150,000 Mile Club. Share the Joy

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
Just turned 200K on my '99 a couple of weeks ago. I follow the Honda maintenance schedule since we bought it at about 40K. Issues: - New trans at 40K under warranty - EGR recal service - Another new trans at 120K (honda goodwill warranty) - Bad rollers in the driver's side slider. - Sliders...
  10. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
I was wrong, I checked my records and new NGK PZFR5F-11 plugs went in at about 159K. Yeah, it's the original cat. I'm just loath to spend $800+ on the Honda cat to fix it or $300 for after market and have the light persist. I'll try the fuel system cleaner and see if that improves the hard...
  11. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
I finally got the code scanned tonight - P0420, not P1129. I've had the P0420 off and on for close to two years. Seems to pop up in the winter and go off in the summer, but really haven't tracked it. Indicates time to replace the catalytic converter, but it runs fine and until I get...
  12. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
Well, after AIC replacement, I've still go the hard starting and the check engine light is back on. :( Haven't been back to Autozone to see what the code is. I've had a long time code for the catalytic converter that I've been ignoring, I'm hoping that's it. The weather has been warmer too...
  13. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
You can buy a scan tool, but if you have an Autozone near by they'll do it free.
  14. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
No, not OEM. We'll see how it goes with this one, keeping in mind that it still could be faulty. Approaching 200K and only needing to get about 13 months out of it, I'm in 'spend little money' mode with this van now.
  15. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
Drove the van to Autozone to pull codes. Only code stored was P1129, which according to this TSB indicates a IAC replacement. Of course, that TSB doesn't apply to the '99. I bought an IAC, $90 + tax, anyway as it seems like the logical issue. I'll replace it tomorrow night after work and...
  16. Hard start, won't idle in cold, surging idle

    Problems and Concerns
My Ody has been a little hard to start for a while. Takes longer to get going and occasionally won't start unless I put the accelerator to the floor. With the recent sub-10 degree temps, I definitely need to floor it to start it and it won't idle at all unless I keep my foot on it. Now, my...
  17. Parasitic Battery Drain?

    Problems and Concerns
If you read back to my problem (which started this thread), that was the same relay that caused the issue on my '99. Thankfully, I didn't spend anything with any shops, but I did spend a couple weeks disconnecting the battery every time I parked the van. :stupid:
  18. Parasitic Battery Drain?

    Problems and Concerns
I dunno, I yanked it out and pitched it. Didn't check. Thanks for the kind words on the car, it's a lot of fun. Hopefully I can get in another top down ride before it needs to go to bed for the winter.
  19. Parasitic Battery Drain?

    Problems and Concerns
I'd start a new thread. Maybe someone knows what that circuit does.
  20. CV Joints

    1999 - 2004 Odyssey
I think I misspoke a bit and was misunderstood some as well. When you replace a CV joint, actually the entire halfshaft to be more accurate, the inboard attachment is a sliding joint or slip yoke. See this page for a vary basic explanation. That sliding allows the effective length of the...
