Hello all. I've been shopping, comparing, test driving and searching for my new Ody ride. I've come up with the above-it does not include the Honda Certification yet, although I can have it for more $. The Honda dealer is talking high $16K for the van so far. Not bad. My biggest concern is the tranny, although I think they can make me comfortable with that if they can show the recall inspection info and service records. Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Depending on the mileage, it's a steal. I wouldn't pay for Certification just for the trans as Honda will probably replace free to 100k in any case.
Would you suggest I purchase an extended warrenty of any kind on this model? I agree about the tranny as I have expereince with the same issue on my '02 TL S Type. I had to have it swapped out twice before the recall. Thanks for responding.

I've always urged my parents to buy extended warranties on their cars, for multiple reasons. They don't maintain vehicles properly. They tend to buy Chryslers and Fords. They can't fix anything themselves (and don't believe in my mechanical abilities, even though I've maintained all my cars myself for years).

For example, their '98 Caravan has been a piece of junk. They bought it with 36k miles. Head gasket went out at 38k. Tranny went around 60k. Starter went at 65k. The list goes on. For them, the $900 extended warranty was very worthwhile.

I just bought my first Honda, an '01 Ody EX. I bought said van because it's a Honda and thus should last a long, long time. If you buy a Honda you're already paying a premium for the reliability history of other Hondas.

Knowing that the transmission is automatically extended to 100k miles made it an easy decision for me to NOT buy an extended warranty, or even pay a premium for a certified Honda. I've spent about $200 and one weekend doing a more thorough check (and maintenance) than any "certified" Honda would get (replaced plugs, filters, fluids, brakes) and I bought it for thousands less than a comparable "certified" Honda.

So, only you can answer whether or not you should get an extension. Peace of mind = piece of wallet :D

The price for the vehicle you're considering does sound reasonable. If you like it, can afford it and are comfortable with the vehicle go for it!

Find out how much $ to get the Gold cert. It's like having an extended powertrain warranty, but problably costs less. Also, ask the dealer to show you what it includes. The list is very extensive. I paid $400CAN for a Gold cert. After all was said and done, Honda installed a new battery, 4 tires, fixed a big dent, and numerous smaller deficiencies. 4 bills was well worth it for us.

Extended "Service Agrement"

I bought an '01 with 45,000 Miles and my lender offers a "aka" extended warrenty good to 100K and /or 4 years. The price added $1084 to the price, but covers a lot of "stuff". It does require that I keep records of meeting factory maintenance, and change oil every 3000 miles. Strange, but this an A+ company.

Grins!
