I just got a job swapping a trans for someone. I pulled the 03 trans (5-speed) and installed a 99 trans (4-speed). I did not think ahead that the wiring harness hookups would be different. Specifically to the solenoids that’s cannot be swapped to match the 03 harness.
Where do I go from here? I cannot find repair manuals for each transmission year to splice wires properly? And even if I get that far, do I need a 99 odyssey TCM or will it simply know there’s not a fifth gear for it to engage?

The 4-speed PCM would be needed alright, but the PCM also controls the engine. The engines are different between the two (HP, VTEC, etc.) so incompatibilities are inevitable.

Cut your losses, save yourself a lot of headache, and seek out the correct 5-speed transmission. Sell the 4-speed to offset some of the cost.

Dave is right. You won't be able to make it work without the PCM and the engine from the 99. You need a trans from a 02-04.
