A novel idea is to search for the condensor failure posts. There are 3 very big condensor failure due to rock hits threads on here.

Dealer said it is a compressor clutch that failed. Could such a failure reduce the life of the rest of the A/C system?
I would guess no. A/C systems are pretty simple, they are designed to be serviceable. Are they going to replace the clutch or entire compressor?

They claim that only the clutch needs to be replaced.
Sounds pretty straight forward.

Clutches fail all the time, some people prefer to replace the entire compressor, since it also can fail down the road, but that's only a possibility, it's just as likely to die as if the clutch didn't fail at all. One advantage with changing the clutch, a lot of the time they can do the clutch without opening the A/C system, which reduces labour and the need to replace other components, like orifice tube.
