Yeah, it seemed like everyone in our neighborhood bought an Ody right after we did. LOL

I swear there weren't driving around here before.

1st Gen Odys are my favourite, and are an under-rated star as far as I am concerned.

Size is subjective to everyone, but for me, the 1st Gens strike a good balance of maximum interior space vs. minimum exterior size. The current generation, like all other mainstream vans are just to big for me (remember when minivans were mini?). Oddly enough, there's more leg room in the middle row than there is in a Grand Caravan.

The '98s are the ones to look for since they've got the 2.3 V-TEC rather than the 2.2 mill. I've driven both, and even though the 2.3 is rated only 10 hp and about 8 lb-ft more, the powerband is much wider, giving a more satisfying feel on launch. In addition to better power, the 2.3 reportedly has better fuel economy too.

BTW, this is my first post. I stumbled onto this site while looking for info on 1st Gens, and have monitored it daily ever since. I'd love to see a 1st Gen section, but since it was such a low volume model, it may be hard to find enough people to make it sustainable.

Welcome to the site! Do you own a 1st Gen?

I have a good bit of 1st Gen info that will go online in the next couple of weeks.

I'm looking for a '98 right now. I'd like to find an EX in Black Currant. My father had a '96, which I used to drive quite a bit. A good friend of mine has a '98 so I got to see the improvements made that year (also includes a tach on the dash and body-coloured mouldings around the rear tailgate window).

'98s are going for about CAN$18,0000 now, but this should get better as more start coming off lease.

My wife wants a CR-V, but I've convinced her that you get a lot more for the money in an Ody.

I also got to see the 1st Gen as a taxi cab in NYC. I was impressed with that and found them to be a better vehicle for cab duty. However, I've heard that they haven't stood up to 24-hour abuse as well as Crown Vics. Some toy company made 1st Gen replicas (1:64 scale and 1:18) and painted it in taxi colours and is selling it in NYC -- I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a few last time I was there. Does anyone know who made this replica?

I can't wait to see the new material you have planned for the site on the 1st Gen. Don't forget that while Honda introduced the 2nd Gen in 1999, the 1st Gen continued in 1999 as the Isuzu Oasis (a vehicle we never got in Canada).

Love the site, keep up the great work.

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 97Ody with a 2.3VTEC F23A. Have been very impressed so far and after owning it for two weeks have added a pod filter and intake pipe and front strut tower brace to stiffen her upa bit.

Am looking for some new wheels at the moment.

I was also impressed with the balance of performance/power and economy. I test drove the V6 model but decided that with the sacrifice of economy for a ''family'' vehicle it was better to go for the 2.3Vtec.

The pod filter and tube is a good cheap mod (cost about 45us$) and only takes 30mins to fit. You end up with a nice induction roar when you give it some herbs and full noise when the vtec comes on song. OBX supply the kits with all the bits and its a simple fit only requiring minimal tools.

check out http://www.obxracingsports.com/ the 2.3vtec accord accord parts fit.

go the roarin 4's!

Cheers

KiwiOdy :)

We have a '95, bought it new, and absolutely LOVE it. It has 128,000 miles on it and only had to do motor mounts and timing belt. It is the Azure Blue Green Pearl, and after a wax, looks like new. The car is very versitile and drives like a car. Wife loves it.
