Hello all, I haven't been here for a while. I changed my resivoir for the ps and an engine mount today. I have 140K on the van. Honda put a tranny in at 111K and a water pump and timing belt. About 1 month ago, the car started making a constant engine noise. Thought it was ps a t first. Not that. It's loud, you can hear the van coming down the road. Not a knock, not a ticking, a constant whining/grinding noise. Any help? I looked at other posts and they were of the knocking variety. Thanks

Does the noise change when the a/c is turned on? I've seen the A/C clutch bearing go bad which makes for a whirring/grinding type noise. The bearing should be able to be replaced without pulling the compressor completely out. You can tell when this is bad by loosening the belt enough to spin the outer part of the pulley, it should be smooth and quiet, when bad it's notchy (or hard to move) and sounds like sand is in the bearing.
