I've got a long highway trip coming up in a couple of months and I need some help coming up with an action list of things to take care of before we go. I also want to go ahead and tackle any common failure items that come naturally with a van of this age. THe trip is a good excuse to get them taken care of. My van is a 2001 EX with about 150,000 miles on it. The transmission was replaced by Honda at around 109,000. I've kept up with general maintenance myself, but have not done significant work to it. Here's my list, tell me what you think:

  • Change plugs (it is time)
    Change serpentine (also time)
No hoses have ever been changed. What's the recommendation for this?
    New wiper blades
No tranny work or flush (transmission is still "new")
    Check tires
Change battery (almost time - better safe than sorry)
Timing belt and WP was done at about 100k. Is it time for a flush?
Engine mounts - never been changed, but I'm changing the passenger side tomorrow as it failed this week. Should I change the others if they haven't failed?
Valves have never been checked - worth it?
Appreciate any input on other items you have had experience with - Thanks.

Pretty much the same as above.

If you don't want to make the jump to synthetic yet at least add the cooler and some fluid.

Thanks for help. I'll look into it.

I replaced the passenger side mount today and still have a noticeable rumble.

How does one diagnose if the rear or front mounts are bad. Visual inspection? Or could this be the EGR problem? I've never done any work on the EGR.

Thanks again folks!

Change the 2 accesory belts if not changed at TB change.
Change plugs with OEM NGKs.
Change wiper inserts with OEM inserts.
Do a drain and fill with Honda ATF Z-1.
Check tire inflation and spare tire too.
Check your other engine mounts for failure - does not sound like an EGR issue.
