I too have the same problem as other posters with the NAV system not supporting a cassette deck.

I would like to try just removing the ash tray/coin holder and just stick the cassette deck in there. Is there any reason that won't work (i.e. size restrictions, way too ugly, etc.).

If that's not doable, I am putting in a floor console and was wondering if it would make any sense to just stick the deck somewhere in there.

You'd have to measure it, but it could work. You will need to fabricate a custom trim ring though, and it's likely you'll need to extend the harness cord length to extend to a different location.
Don't know anyone who's done the cassette deck, seen aftermarket DVD players installed there, as well as in dash CD changers though.

If you don't have lots of cassettes, you can put them on CD-R's, assuming that the stock CD player reads them.

Of course, you need a computer or other device capable of CD recording.
