I recently purchased an 02 Ody & want to have timing belt changed. How long to change, including water pump? There is no Honda dealer in town. ( 55 miles) What brand ATF is a safe replacement to Honda? Do most people add an inline filter?
Thanks. Ron.

I am talking about the time in a shop. Can we also include the belt tightener in the time estimate!!
Lordco just shows Z1 as ATF to use. No alternate.

I just did the timing belt myself and it took 9-10 hours including the water pump, TB, serpentine belt, power steering belt and plugs. I'd imagine a shop can do the TB and water pump in about 6-7 hours. I bought the ACDelco TB and water pump kit which included replacement idler and tension pulley assemblies and the tensioner assembly for $175.

When I change ATF, I use the Valvoline MaxLife product that according to the bottle is a replacement for the Honda Z-1. There are quite a few people that recommend only using the Honda Z-1 fluid, but I have been using the Valvoline stuff for the past three changes (45,000 miles) with no discernible issues and its considerably less expensive. Have nearly 180,000 miles on the car.

I used Valvoline MaxLife for over 40,000 miles as well on my 2003 EX. Great stuff. Switched to AmSOil Universal Synthetic ATF because our local Wally World stopped carrying the high quality Valvoline product. The AmSOil ATF is doing just fine, too.
