I busted one of my rear air pipes last year (rock) and the AC place that looked at it today said there may be dust inside it now and that even a tiny shade would cause the AC to break.

Their suggestion was to cut off the rear ac pipes and weld them shut then charge the front.

Is there any other option? He didnt even think replacing the rear pipe would work as there "may" by dust back there.

They want to charge $350 to do this as well..

Thanks!

This all sounds kind of sketchy. I'd be tempted to get the line fixed, system purged & recharged, and see how it works. However, small amounts of foreign material in the A/C lines is not a good thing.

I'm still awaiting the day where I'll need to replace my Ody's noisy A/C compressor. When it starts to really get noisy, I'll quit using it, replace it, and have a buddy who's good with aluminum line brazing splice in one of these filter-driers:

The suction line (or liquid line, depending on location in your system) filter-driers used for small commercial R134a refrigerant systems (like for those chilly lobster aquariums you see in big supermarkets) should be about right. I haven't done this yet, because my A/C is still working, but it's been something I've been thinking about.

Find a proper shop to change the line and clean the pipes to the rear.
