I have searched the forums and everyone refers to the EGR valve cleaning as the ports/passages cleanout and not the EGR valve itself. The scant info I could find was to fill the two intake/out holes with carb cleaner and that is it.

I pulled the EGR valve off of my 2003 EX after cleaning all the EGR passages through the top cover (rewarding job). There is only an electrical connection and no vacuum line on the valve. The two ports attaching to the manifold were relatively clean. How does this EGR valve actuate the vaccum to pull up the "pin/needle"? Is it electrical, rather than mechanical? Tried to use a large screwdriver to manually move the plunger, but the spring seems very stiff.

I am beginning to think that the EGR valve itself is not cleanable....except for soaking the two passages with carb cleaner!

I soaked mine with brake cleaner, cleaned with toothbrush + q-tips. The valve is electrically actuated. Applying 12V will make it click.
