Does anyone know if 2008 EXL-RES comes with a subwoofer. All the litererature implies it is 12W, 6 Speaker Audio system and when you upgrade to touring, you get 7 speaker, 360W (presumably adds 140W suboofer).

However, quick look at Honda online parts catalog shows subwoofer (in its enclosure) under passenger seat.

When I look under the passenger seat of my 2008 EXL-RES, there is a black plastic box which matches the sketch of the subwoofer assembly, leading me to conclude '08 EXL-RES indeed includes the subwoofer. Anyone else w/ one of these, or did I just get lucky. Or, are they tricking me and is that black box under the seat something else?

No vibration felt, put ear next to box, no base noted right there. So, then, anybody know what this mysterous black box is that is labeled SubWoofer Housing. It surely isn't a $111 pre-wire, is it part of the active noise cancellation?

No idea man. In the 2007 EXLs, there used to be a storage bin (like a small tray) there under the passenger seat. I have the tray in my 2007 EXL-R&N. :)

Called dealer Service Manager today. He phoned back, said he had discussed w/ Parts department and they agree, its a subwoofer under the seat (Illustration Number 6 in https://www.hondapartsdeals.com/hon...series_transmission=5AT&hp_series_slsareacd=KA&hp_system=E&hp_component=B++1605 ).

So, I am still curious. Cranked the stero up w/ bass on +6, feel NO low rumble from this black box. Dealer mentioned to go into RES menu and see if I need to "enable it." But, this seems counterintuitive as there is no sales literature mentioning the inclusion of a subwoofer in any model but Touring. Furthermore, don't recall any subwoofer adjustments in the owners manual.

Maybe it is only used for DVD LFE channel, I still have to try this tonight w/ something like Top Gun in the DVD player or something.

Well, one more call to service dept at dealer and a little more questioning yielded the answer.

Yes, it is a subwoofer. However, it is not for the audio system. It's purpose is for the active noise cancellation, and according to the technician I talked with, was especially needed on models with the Variable Cylinder Management (EX-L and Touring) as these engines produce some low frequency noise when some cylinders are offline.

So, thats the scoop. Anybody know where the audio system subwoofer is mounted on the touring or have any suggestions where to put one on an EX-L w/RES without punting the factory audio system? No apparent options for putting touring sub in an EX-L as an add on (as was done in 2005-2007) presumably because the space under passenger seat is occupied by the active noice cancellation unit now.

i remember reading somewhere that the touring sub woofer was located inside the passenger's left kick panel...it seems like they made improvements to ANC...maybe because of VCM2?

'08 touring...

To take this a step further...
My '08 Touring supposedly has a subwoofer which I have yet to locate. Not even the dealer can tell me where it is. I have the mystery box under the passenger seat as well.
I had an '07 EXL-RES and had a subwoofer installed(factory issue), it was located under the passanger seat with a power button on the left of the stearing wheel, as stated in the previous post. It was a great sounding system for a stock minivan, and even rivaled the Bose system in my Pathfinder... well maybe not, but it did sound great.
It was much better sounding than my '08 touring which supposedly has a subwoofer. If I ever find it there is supposedly a manuel knob to increase the bass effect, there's almost no effect now. It's very disappointing. Since the kids always have the RES on, the front speakers alone NEED that extra umf to sound decent, I miss that from my '07.
If anyone has an idea to help, it's much appreciated.

Eric
'08 touring silver met in Hlwd, Fl.

check out bernardiparts. It looks like the sub is still under front passenger seat for 08 Ody.

Yes, I verified it on our '08 last night, same spot as the '06. I used a flashlight to look for an adjustment screw/button/etc. but could not spot one. It does seem like it could use some more "boost"

I had heard once there is an adjustment knob, but..and it's a big but, it's inside the case under the seat, which means taking the entire front seat out to do an audio adjustment.
I was hoping to hear it was located somewhere else, easier to access... Oh well....
Thanks for now.. hope someone has a better idea...

Eric

I had the sub installed on my EX-L when purchased new. Unfortunately the settings are a mess. I have been putting it off but now I believe I will remove the seat in order to get the sound I desire. Nice option, just no way to access it easily.

Accessing the Subwoofer Controls

I have a 2005 Odyssey with the dealer installed subwoofer. I did not have to remove the seat to access the controls. I removed the lower plastic trim covering the seat track facing the passenger door. This just requires removing some screws and pulling out the plastic covers. The two adjustments are readily accessible with a screw driver. As I recall, one control is volume and the other is a band-pass filter.

Thanks...I was able to locate the subwoofer installation instructions. You're correct, it doesn't look too difficult.
Gen3 Ody Sub Install

You guys are missing the fact that the 2008 EX-Ls come with the Sub installed. It might not be the accessory add-on one. The Tourings didn't come with those settings IIRC. Only the Add-Ons have the settings and since the 2008s come with the sub preinstalled from the factory, perhaps they are using the Touring Sub and not the Add On sub.

Just a thought.

True...I did sorta hijacked this thread. My van is an '07 with the optional subwoofer accy. But now I can atleast access the unit to make the necessary adjustments. AFAIK there are no sub volume or gain settings via the factory head unit in the '07.

From what I can remember in the Helm manual, the sub in the EX-L's is used for ANC and not the sound system.

I amused myself last night while driving at highway speeds -- I covered the microphone in the headliner with my finger when VCM was on, which effectively disabled the subwoofer waveform inversion. The low drone from the engine is maddening!
