I spent some time breezily browsing the various Sienna and Honda user forums last night so came away with a general impression.
I'm getting cold feet because I am questioning the wisdom of buying the first model year, not because the Sienna is horribly out of line with normal first year problems. I don't really need to buy this year since my main motivation is to give my Lexus to a family member who needs a car, not because it isn't working well.
My comment was more on the first year issues the Odyssey is likely to experience but it is too new to see any of them yet. I've been pretty spoiled with all three of the car's I've purchased over the years (2 Nissan Maxima's and one Lexus) and never had to run to the dealer to get any warranty work done. Just pay, drive, be happy and do normal maintenance. You could say I am easily spooked because I hate dealing with car repair people and dealerships especially. Another way to put it is that I don't want to be anybody's quality assurance department.
Just think of all the quality assurance folks that should have caught the distorted windshields. At the windshield manufacturer the engineering tech. says to his boss 'this is a bad batch'. Boss says put em in the middle of the shipment so they aren't detected. Honda receives them, samples a few doesn't find them, installs them. QA person at end of assembly line says to boss, these windshields are distorted. Boss says, were behind schedule pass em anyways. Dealership receives them. Acceptance person checks them over and says to boss, these windshields are distorted. Boss says, put em on the lot anyways we need to sell cars. No one on lot buys vehicle. Customer at another dealership sees the trim and color they want on the computer list of available vehicles. They buy vehicle sight unseen. Receive vehicle and now the problem is theirs.
Fast forward one year. Windshield manufacturer fired! Honda QA guy now more suspicious. Checks new glass shipments more thoroughly. Customer never gets a bad windshield.
