Thanks OP.
Did you get a new washer? If you did, do you have the part number?
How long was hose did you need? Looks like less than 12"?
I want to do the drain and then see if I can suck out any from the top too.

No, I didn't use a new washer, the original still was fine. The hose was about a foot long and fits the filler tube perfectly. Do you have an extractor to suck out the fluid? I think the 2 drain and fills are more than enough to replace most of the old fluid.
Thanks.
I use an extractor for oil changes and just turn the wheel to one side and reach in to get to the filter.
I'm more curious how much I can get out from the top once it's drained from the bottom. I'd DEFINITELY draining from the bottom after seeing that magnetic drain bolt you posted!!!

Yes, change the ATF at operating temperature. This has two advantages over changing it cold:
1. Drains out more particles suspended in the fluid.
2. Less chance of overfilling since the fluid remaining after the drain is already thermally expanded.

Yes, you can do it that way. Once the level is between the dots, add just a small amount at a time so to not overfill it.

Another method is to measure the amount drained out then replace the same amount. (That's how I do it, but I found that measuring into the bottle is inaccurate. So I bought a measuring cylinder to get the amount right.) Make sure the level is good before you drain the old fluid.

I don't think it's necessary to make a special trip after changing the fluid. However, check it again after returning from your first trip. Make sure the level is at or near the upper dot - not above. I find that the fluid level doesn't change from heating up the new 3.5 quarts. Also, check the drain bolt for any sign of leaking.

Thanks Dave. When you check the fluid, do you turn the engine off? If yes, how long do you let it sit before checking?
Thanks!

Anyone else having trouble getting a clear reading on the dip stick?
I've done 2 drain and fills and the fluid is pretty clear now, so I'm not seeing a clear line for where the fluid is on the dip stick, even with shining a light on the dip stick?

Also, is there any long lasting damage if it's overfill? Before this drain fill, it looks like it was an inch above the "HOT" dots!!??

ATF can be difficult for a number of reasons.

Did you measure how much you pulled out the first time, to ensure you added back the same quantity?
I did last time I changed the fluid, but there was fluid way up the dipstick when I checked the level a few days ago.
This time I put in 3 quarts and drove it through the gears and then added another 1/2 quart when it appeared to be low (as expected), and the drove it around again and it looked like it was around the lower HOT dot, so I added another 1/4 quart. I just wish it was as clear to see the actual level as it was on an oil dipstick.
