2015 Transmission Drain and Fill

This was a great and useful thread. Really helped me walk through the process the first time.

We hit 10k miles on our odyssey, so I figured it was time to do a drain and fill of the ATF. It's super simple with a square plug for the drain, and two ways to refill (I used a long skinny funnel to add through the dipstick as I felt it was more straightforward). I put DW-1 in since I got a case of 12 cheap on Amazon. I'd consider Amsoil at some point in the future.

The good: the fluid was beautifully red and clear.

The bad: a TON of sludge and filings on the magnet.

Can't say there is any difference in feel, but the van gets lots of local driving and it's good to know that all that sludge is out and off the magnet...

Most wear occurs in the first 20k miles or so. We drive nice and gentle, which helps, I guess. I was surprised at how thick a coating it was.

Where did you buy the fluids, any online spots ? thanks
I got a case of 12 off amazon with prime shipping for a good price.

If you want Amsoil, I recommend Paul, who goes by the handle "Pablo" over at bobistheoilguy.com and possibly here as well (I know he owns an odyssey).

That beats all...now there's a web page so that you can google a search for somebody else...and show them the finer points of "mouse clickery".

BTW, this product information sheet came out this month: Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF PI sheet.

Ashland Chem now lists this ATF as suitable for applications using Honda ATF DW-1.

Thats a lot of claims for a lot of fluids that are somewhat similar in use, but different in viscosity and design.

5.91cSt is awful thin...

ATF can be difficult for a number of reasons.

Did you measure how much you pulled out the first time, to ensure you added back the same quantity?
