Hi All,

I am lookin for detailed technical wiring diagrams, factory specifications, and owner experience information to assist in upgrading the cheap speakers in my 2019 Odyssey EX-L. Any details more in-depth than what can be downloaded from Crutchfield would be greatly appreciated. I will be upgrading the door speakers while using the factory amplifier. I am trying to decide if I should swap the speaker in the subwoofer enclosure or install an upgrade amplifier for it. There is absolutely no information on that one piece of the puzzle.

I know about the noise cancellation circuit in the 2013 EX-L that I once had. It was 180 degrees out of phase with the door speakers and most folks reported awful droning from the sub after changing it around. I avoided that issue by proper phasing after it's installation. I suppose this new sub will be set up the same.

Thanks!

I don't think the factory amp is good enough to drive quality after market speakers. I have Canadian Touring with 11 speakers. The door speakers are 6.5" (front 2 way component with 1" tweeter, back coaxial) I am not sure if the sub is the same in the EXL. I have a picture of the sub but don't know how to attach it (looks like a 8" sub). I got a pair of good speakers with enough bass; my sub was disconnected due to humming.

If you are going to replace the factory sub, and use the original box you will have to cut it out as it is molded to the box, and depending on aftermarket amp size the only location is under the front seats

Would love to see a product like pac amp pro or Rockford dsr1 to make upgrading the system easy. My wife is begging me to figure out a way to upgrade it. She is threatening to take my truck.

Your subwoofer is humming because the speakers and the sub are supposed to be 180 degrees out of phase. If you install aftermarket speakers in the doors and incorrectly phase any one of them with the subwoofer.....you will get the most aweful hum from the ANC controller circuit.

My advice is to download an application for your smart phone called "SpeakerPop". This program allows you to phase each speaker in the system that is NOT the sub to a positive phase. Then you can ensure that the sub is negative or 180 degrees out of phase. This will resolve your subwoofer going wild.

Did you know if you remove the sub speaker and add quilting or pillow polyfill in light density to the subwoofer enclosure that it GREATLY improves low frequency bass response of the sub? This in effect will create the effect of adding another 1/3 air volume to the sub without actually changing a bit of hardware.

Thanks so much for the info.

The speakers I mentioned for the swap sound amazing. I do suggest if you get the same set or any set where the crossover is designed for an optional midrange driver, that you absolutely use the midrange. It's a sound balance and reproduction quality sacrifice if you do not. I 3-D printed miniaturized speaker pod enclosures for mine to attach where they would create a balanced volume sound field for the listening area.

I did upgrade the subwoofer using the oem enclosure. Did I not speak about that in any detail in an earlier post in this same thread?

Do now that KingKong TO has posted a photo of the sub enclosure you can see the very very cheap and flimsy diaphragm speaker that they slipped in where no one could see except folks not happy with the sound quality as we are.

You need to choose a high quality driver to replace it with. I chose a 2 Ohm impedance matching driver to the amp supply native to the OEM amp. I chose a pancake flat or very low clearance driver from Pioneer. I wanted as much air volume freed up in the enclosure as possible.

So, next, go to Wally World to the piece goods area and buy a small 5" diameter by 20" long roll of poly fill quilting batting. Place an evenly distributed full stuffing of this full inside the air space of the enclosure. DO NOT add any more than the small roll with the dimensions I called out. I tried it and the output increase actually turns into a decrease if stuffed unevenly or with too much

One last item. Fill in the securing bolt hole in the end of the plastic cone driver support where the old driver magnet used to be supported inside the box. It needs to be sealed for deep rich accurate base of all air leaks. Ported enclosures require perfect air port tuning only to get a narrow band of accurate sound reproduction and usually ends up with boomy base and annoyance.

The results of this improvement work can be remarkable.

I went with 4
Hertz Audio DCX 165.3 6.5" 2-Way 60-Watt RMS DIECI Series Coaxial Speakers - Pair $93/pair from amazon
they sound so much better even with stock head unit, but amazing with even an inexpensive additional amp
hardware needed are spacers and plug adapters...the Civic has the same as the Odyssey

DKMUS 2 X Pairs Speaker Adapter Mounting Plates for Honda Civic 2006-2011 6.5"/6.75" 165mm Stand Ring Kit with Wiring Harness...$19

any replacement name brand speakers will double the sound quality...crutchfield has many choices and they come with the spacers and installation parts and instructions

hope this helps and best wishes and good luck with your van

Did you decide to replace the stock amplifier?

What I would do is call Crutchfield. They are experts at accurately answering such questions. Get an answer and then end the call and do more research with the info. They are a great company to support if you are satisfied with the answer.
I kept the same head in the dash and added or bypassed the stock amp with a stereo store amp. Somewhere on the forum is that thread.
