Picked up my new 23 Odyssey EX in obsidian blue!

Model/Trim: 2023 Odyssey EX
Color: Obsidian blue
MSRP + destination
Factory/port installed options: none
Dealer installed options: All weather mats and all weather trunk tray ($280)
Dealer fees: doc fee $565
Other dealer add-ons: none
Dealer markup: none
Trade-in: none
OTD: 39680

This is in a medium-large midwest city and the 4 other Honda dealers I called either had markup (1k, 2k) or had no Odyssey incoming that was not reserved already. This one had about 6 incoming (all Touring or Elites in either black or white....) and lucked into one that was previously reserved but guess the guy backed out....it is the perfect trim for us, EX, with the cloth seats, no sun/moon-roof, manual tail gate, and in blue (I hate white/black/gray colors)!!

And as I do with all my new cars, no dealer badging/stickers on the car, leave the monroney label on the window (I'll take it off myself) and no drilling into the front bumper...which this dealer readily obliged.

New owner of Odyssey and new to the forum so I decided to jump right to this section. Past 3 years I owned grand caravan gt, carnival sx, sienna hybrid le, and now a ody EX-L. Wanted to check if I over paid for it or not.

Trim: 2023 EX-L
Color: white & beige
Msrp + destination: $42360 same as Honda website
Dealer special: -$2000 msrp and -$500 for military (through Honda financing)
Dealer add-on: $1148( window tint, mud guard, all weather mats, cargo tray, wheel locks)
Tax: ( auto sales tax 6.25%)
Doc and registration fee: $340
OTD: $43000
Location: Dallas, TX

So I told the dealer I only want to pay 43k OTD, if it works then we have a deal if not that was okay too. And they agreed in the end. So they give me roughly another $1000 off I suppose. Now that I have the vehicle and I was like what if I told them 42k instead. I made the deal while speaking with the sales on the phone and rushing to get my daughter from daycare. I think about it now maybe I over paid? The EXL trim was always below 40k right? How much is the dealer margin?
Hi can you share the dealership in DFW? in the market for an EX-L as well, I spoke to the one in Frisco back in Jan and they were not willing to budge off of MSRP plus add-ons.

Grapevine Honda. Many dealerships are offering 1k-2k off msrp now. Just ask them and be bold. I think for 42k they can also do it. If you make them believe you gonna get the vehicle from them and not just to “ bring it to another dealer to beat the price” then you have a good chance. I was negotiating but they did not want do it in the first place , so I walked out without hesitation. And they called me like 5 minutes after. Do not hesitate when walking out, make them feel like if they loose you other dealers are gonna make that money. Both you and they know that odysseys are sitting on the lots and selling slow. Especially the touring and elite models. If Toyota sienna and Kia Carnival have plenty of stocks, I guarantee you Honda would have even more vehicle on the lot or they gonna bring the price down even more.

Thanks! Will check them out. Yes seems like dealers are wanting to deal now

My old minivan just died yesterday and I am now looking to get a honda odyssey. Called a couple of dealership around me and was told the EX model has not been available for the past several months in the surrounding area and the cheapest they have is EX-L and they will only sell it at MSRP due to its popularity. I just don't want to pay for things I don't need like moonroof, leather seats etc....
Any suggestions?

EX is in very short supply. There are none at any dealership within 100 miles of my location in NorCal. Not sure where you're located. Short supply equals higher prices. You're going to most likely have to move up to the EX-L or go used. Used car prices are ridiculous in my area though.

Some dealers in my area are selling below msrp. Most add overpriced accessory packages to pad their profits. Took me a bit to find a dealer willing to selling without them. Good luck. It could be worse. At least you're not trying to buy a Sienna. Lol!

Is Sienna supply even worse?
I just called another dealership 2 hours away. Their website shows one EX in transit but sales have to check its availability. Waiting for them to call back. The price looks normal, just mrsp plus destination charge at around $39K. I would expect an OTD price of $41-$42K
I am not in a super hurry for a car. What is the chance that EX/EXL supply will be up in the coming months?

Trim: Touring in Platinum White
Price Paid (base destination): 41,262.93
Incentives and Amount: Loyalty ($x), Military ($x), etc: None
Price Paid (out of the door): $46,000
Add-ons (if any): All Weather Mat
Dealer: Grays Harbor, WA

I originally wanted a Sport. However, they did not have that in White. They gave us a steep discount to get Touring already on the lot.

unlikely. IMHO they're ramping up for the 2025 redesign.
(so the factory is slowing down on 2023, and 2024 will be tight - I know doesn't make 100% logical sense)

Only ones that seem to be coming in near me are Touring and Elite.

If you had the chance to get a sienna right now at MSRP or deal on an odyssey, what would you go with? I can get an 8 passenger XLE FWD sienna or an odyssey elite for about $4k more.

What issues?

So I do not think these reliability reviews take into account all the issues of a car. For sure I think a Honda Ody engine can go 200k miles
But to name a few recurring problems that are mentioned on this forum:

1) Transmission. This generation has had many issues. Rough shifting. Pricey Tranny flush for the 10 speed. Every dealer quotes around $600

2) Build quality and electrical issues: I have dealer replace actuators for door. My drivers side view mirror shakes on highway speeds. Waiting for the recall fix for that. My gas cap doesn't close flush on the body since the first day I bought it.

My suggestion is to wait for the very last model of a generation when buying a Honda Ody.. It takes them time to sort out their issues. But I don't think the transmission issues will ever get corrected.

Hi all,

New here. Plus 1st post. I got a Sport 3k under MSRP. I live in San Francisco. Use Costco. Costco will link to an dealer network and put it in writing with the discount. They sent me to a dealership 15 minutes away +$10 bridge toll. I brought my family to the dealership ~5 minutes away just to check it out the van. I mentioned the price I was already quote and they just matched it.

@OdySince2006
I disagree with the 10 speed being expensive for transmission oil change. It's way cheaper than a 9-speed! The 10-speed for me and what I have heard on-line has been fairly good. The amount of people having problems versus the amount of vehicles using it in is pretty good. Try building a new transmission that is so tied into to the emissions system and made by maker's (Honda's) people from faults of the nine-speed that they did not build and so many other auto makers used and had so many problems with it.

Great deal! Can you share the dealer and contact to the person you purchased from?
