1999 Odyssey 217k miles. Recently noticed a bad drop in mpg. in town driving we get 270 miles to a tank. I changed the plugs, air filter, pcv. Looking to the clean out the egr ports next.I did notice tonight that around the iat sensor there was alot of oil. No CEL or maintenance light. Other than bad mpg no miss or anything else...What gives?

Couple of things to rule out. Make sure brakes are not dragging. Check individual wheels to see if any of them is hotter than the others after a drive. If nothing else has changed and the mileage just went south, see if you are slipping the transmission. To see if the van is running too rich, you can hook up a scanner with live data capability and look at the LTFT and STFT numbers.

Try to drive the van with the assumed redline at 2K. You will still be doing 72mph on highway but it will take a while to get there! Seriously, if you could keep the revs under 2K *ALL* the time (except in an emergency), your mileage would go up quite a lot.

It may be the O2 sensors getting crappy. They feed the computer so it can figure out the proper air/fuel mixture. Some folks on here have mentioned after replacing them their fuel consumption dropped significantly. If you replace them, use Denso only.
