a/c compressor noise

I have a 2000 LX, and when I start up and put on the a/c I sometimes get a loud grinding noise from the compressor. A couple of times it almost caused the van to stall, but after the noise stops the a/c runs fine. I have about 11,0000 miles on the van, and I know I heard about faulty compressors somewhere, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. This is an intermittent problem, so if I brought it to the dealer it probably won't happen, of course.

That was happened to my 99 Odyssey not long before the A/C compressor completely shut, the dealer had to replace the compressor and the condenser. If it gets more frequent, you should definetely bring the car to the dealer before it completely stops working.
As a matter of fact, I just dropped my van at the dealer this morning because my rear A/C only blows air. Seems like the refrigerant line is clogged.

I just received a call from the dealership and was told that the rear evaporator unit is bad.
They will order the new unit and I'll have to bring the car back when it's in.
This is my second A/C problems after only 11,250 miles. What a bad luck!!!

That's sucks! No actually, that BLOWS!!! (Sorry, I couldn't resist). But honestly, I'm sorry to hear that happened. Not only once - but twice!

BTW, what the heck is a rear evaporator unit? Is it still covered under the warranty?

Evaporator unit is the unit that actually cools/heats the air that comes out of the vents and it is covered under the warranty.
When my A/C shut last time they should have replaced all the components because it contaminated the lines, but they didn't. I have a feeling that my front evaporator might have problem in the near future too. Fortunately, I have an extended warranty, so I am not too worry.
