I found the external automatic transmission filter on top of my 5spd transmission next to the ATF cooler line connections but can find no replacement recommendation in either the owners manual or '02 Ody FSM. The FSM shows it as a A/T filter and it doesn't look to be too terribly hard to replace except for removing a few small harnesses/connectors and brackets and of course the filter's fluid line fasteners/seals. Most car manufactures recommend A/T filter replacement at the time of fluid change. I don't see this filter on the '99 to '01 4spd trans in the manual and am wondering if this filter change was overlooked in the '02 Ody maintenance schedule. Any thoughts? I searched the forums but found nothing on this.

Thanks, Mark

The tech I spoke to said that Honda has never used a serviceable AT filter. He did, however add that the remanufactured transmissions he had seen were equipped with an inline external filter. He said their shop had not seen many failed transmissions, so far.
