AC suction hose leaking

303 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  hondabagom
Recently took in our 15 Ody to an independent Honda shop for routine maintenance. On the lookover by the mechanic they reported that an AC suction hose is leaking. Quote to repair was $510 and included an AC service.

This was my first time at this shop, but it gets great reviews on multiple sites. I met the owner who seems like a straight shooter. With all of that being said, the price seems high. Any opinions or has anybody else had a similar issue?

An A/C recharge can be expensive. I know my shop charges around $200 parts/labor just to evac and recharge the system with UV dye. Part replacement gets added on top of that.

That's not too bad. Better to get on it before you lost more refrigerant and oil for the compressor, when that goes out it gets VERY expensive. Plus the guys at the shop (should) have a proper A/C recovery machine that will take all the air contamination out and replace it with pure refrigerant after repairs are done.

Thanks for the replies. I plan to go ahead with the fix next week.

The part cost $55, so with the recharge costing $175-$200, $250 for labor seems a little high. Get an itemized list of what exactly was done with the part numbers of what was installed. This way if it has problems later you have something to refer to.
reasonable...

if you get a local indie shop to evac then change the hose yourself, then recharge you can save a few hundred.

that's what I did on my Acura and some other vehicles in the family fleet, they recovered the gas and only charged me the one time.

They test the gas before extracting, if you used any of those patch cans the recovered gas is garbage , so they charge you twice.
needs to be pure 134a or 1234yf

I have a 2012 and noticed only cooler air coming from the passenger side vents. Took it to a independant shop and confirmed suction hose had a leak. New hose, a/c service and change valves was about 450. This is in north ATL, so that sounds about right.
