Is it possible to add the Honda Navi system to a 2001 EX? If so, what's involved and what's the cost for parts etc?

Go to the gallery menu, and check out nemogira. He has done it. Looks like a major job.
Possible, but not feasible for mere mortals! I've read Nemogira's procedure/ordeal and I don't think it's something you want to try!
I believe there are aftermarket NAV systems that are much easier to install, although I know nothing about them first hand. Some others on Odyclub have mentioned using them though...

I use Garmin Street Pilot III with very satisfying result. It a portable mobile GPS with features like:

3.4"x1.8" 16 color display
Voice prompt directions
routing, auto-reroute.

Price around 700+ and 200+ for national detail map.
I was at good guys yesterday. They have an in-dash dvd player with a motorized fold out lcd screen. The cost is $2200.00. I asked if you could use it for gps navigation and the salesman said yes, but there was an additional acessory package that you needed, including the disk, with an extra cost of $400.00. I guess going this route would give you a nicely integrated system, plus you could play dvd's on the screen, but at $2600, plus install and tax, its still cheaper to simply order the navi option. FWIW.
Let's see, $2600 plus install and tax. You get a DVD player with a navigation system.

Hmmm. And you can put it into any car you want....

There are plenty of LX owners, for example, who would be interested in that. It'd be better if you could slave another video display to it; put that on the ceiling for the back seat folks....

From what you're saying, it's probably either playing the entertainment DVD or its playing the navigation DVD, but not both. Any ideas on that?

If it were playing both--if, for example, the $400 add-on includes another DVD reader somewhere that has the navigation DVD permanently loaded--and if you could feed entertainment to the aux screen and navigation to the unit's main fold-out screen, tha'td be a killer system.

"Pricey" is all relative. For example, I spent $6K over and above an LX. What did I get? An EX with leather and RES. Some folks really, really dislike the power doors. I understand that. They could spend $2600 for the system you describe plus $1200 for aftermarket leather, plus a few hundred for things like alarm and whatnot....end up spending $4K and get exactly what they want.

Shoot, just look at all the posts here that express interest in having both NAVI and RES. The factory doesn't do that.

I have a 2000 Odyssey with the touchscreen GPSm and in the past I had an aftermarket Alpine GPS. By far, the touchscreen unit in the Honda is the most user-friendly. Does anyone know if any aftermarket company makes a TOUCHSCREEN GPS unit for installation in most vehicles?

The only Touch Screen Navigation Unit I know of is Kenwood KNA-DV2100. It is DVD based and is TouchScreen Enabled.

You need to add the KVT-910DVD or the LZ-800W touch screen.

Don't have any clue how good this is.
As this shows 2D and 3D MapViews, I am guessing this is similar to xanavi [GPS used in Nissan/Infinitis]
Good lord! We're already looking at $3800 and that's just the unit & screen! (Granted it *is* an 8-inch screen, but still...)

oh boy im not a regular mortal so I dont think I can put one in what so hard I mean its just some wires right like power wire and that should be it and then the map should be displayed. Kinda like yahoo maps you punch in destination and where you want to go and gives you directions isnt that what navigation does?
