Hello All,
Proud 2016 Odyssey 2016 SE Here. I bought this car to drive until it dies, but I I love the new apple car play. I have never messed with stereos before, but I was hoping for some advice. Can I purchase a new stereo so that I can have apple car play? How do I know they are compatible? About how much would a system be, and how much to install? Finally does it invalidate my Honda Car Care Warranty, or just the stereo?

Any advice would be great and thanks in advance

The lower screen (the main part of the stereo) can be replaced with an aftermarket stereo - it is a double din sized space. You can even get trim kits to make it look right. The problem is that as far as I know, there is no way to keep the big upper screen functioning if you do that; when you remove the OEM stereo it takes the rear view camera with it.

That's a big part of why things like NavTool get so much play here (no pun intended). You can add ACP to the factory stereo that way and keep all of the original functionality.

Thanks, a search for NavTools showed what you were talking about looks mixed. That helped save me a ton of time looking for ways to get navigation on my front screen. It looks like it is NavTools or losing functionality. Thanks,

Navtool, product good, guy selling a a**hole. Now it may make a difference if you make sure to buy every option & connector from him. I think folks trying to save money or just not buying all the wiring harnesses they need are the ones having trouble. If you communicate with him on Facebook, you will get discounts offered. So far I do not have this generation Odyssey, but did look into it because my wife has an Acura with the same dual screen set up. Hers has Navigation with all the limitations the Odyssey NAV has. The NavTool will allow you to have any map app that is on your phone display in the upper screen. I think the youtube video NavTool has shows the Acura MDX. Also the same set up as this generation Odyssey.

Thanks, I will check his facebook. I don't have the Nav add on in my oddsey, just the SE with the DVD rear screen player. Does that make a difference?
This site is so very helpful

I've researched Nav Play and excluded it as an option. Too many glitches, horror stories and poor customer support. I have not explored what Best Buy is offering "Apple Play"; but intend to....something about some holidays recently :>).

Yes that NavTool mirroring the smart phone product has lots of online talk of it being glitchy. I just recently bought a pioneer double din unit with CarPlay and am still in the investigation/planning stage. My goal is after removal of the oem radio to figure out how to reconnect, bypass around the oem radio, the 4 wires required to make the oem top screen’s rear view display work. Typical 4 wires are an rca video cable, power, ground and reverse signal trigger wire. This should be doable! Anyone that has done this please chime in.

2013 EX-L. Investigated this issue with Crutchfield with a lengthy discussion. Those guys are great. Seems that there is no way of retaining the rear camera. You will also lose the subwoofer if you don’t add an amp to it. But, the OEM sub has such a low impedance, that your choice may be reduced to one, about $120 or so. I estimate that between the head unit (a decent Kenwood), amp, wiring harness, new rear camera, and labor to install (no way I’m messing up the wife’s baby!), you’re looking at about $750-$850 total. That’s alot of money. We’ll wait to upgrade the car.

I am considering purchasing a 2016 odyssey touring, but i am wondering if apple car play can be added to it without loosing the backup camera function. Please advise or provide a Canadian link with the product that would work best.

The loss of the rear camera is from replacing the entire audio system with a Kenwood in the example above. The Navtool add on keeps the rear camera and adds inputs for additional cameras. Unless you are going to tear into your dash and add all the boxes and wiring harnesses yourself, I would start with some car audio installers that are local.

Fyi theres another option now, its an 8 or 10” diagonal screen that typ does not require the removal of the oem radio. It mirrors your iPhone. See below for one on Amz. Mounting it is the tricky part. Was thinking either using a dvd slot mount or mounting to flat area in front of large upper display screen(with it somehow on hinges at its bottom so I can easily reveal the oem screen that is blocked).
