We just ordered our first Honda- a 2026 Honda Odyssey. We’re debating on which extended warranty to choose. We’re in Canada, and we drive our kids in a city and have average milage a year. These are our options- see photo from dealership. We’re inclined to pick the “6 years or 160km for $3,840”. My question is- having owned an odyssey would you recommend a different extended warranty?
Thank you for your help

My advice is, don't buy extended warranties. Put the money you are planning on spending in a high yield savings account (or Bitcoin) and don't touch it. Odds are you will have more money in 6 years. I've owned 2 new Hondas and have never had a problem within the first 6 years. My 2 cents.

I would highly suggest you purchase the HondaCare extended warranties. I would not trust other car maintenance insurance companies at all. I am a old mechanic that has not been at a dealer for over 20 years now... Even so, it scares me at the cost of repairs on today's vehicles. As long as you are doing the routine maintenance (and it does not need to be done at the Honda dealer either).

From the engine to the transmission to the electronics on board, parts have driven prices sky high as well as labor. For a family with children, sliding doors can be such a headache and repairs can be ridiculously high. Items that do not get covered is tires, windshield wipers, oil changes, transmission oil change, water leaks anywhere on the vehicle that would damage seats, carpet or electronics.

The ODY has a lot of electronics on board, PCB (Printed Circuit Boards) and they are dispersed throughout the ODY. Almost every operation goes through these PCB, and some items do not have a fuse to replace. They can cause problems if one shorts out, the others may not function correctly, however most of the time you can still drive the ODY. Be prepared to take either a video for what the ODY is saying is wrong to give to the dealer. Or you can take individual pictures.

If any thing arises be sure to post a question on the Gen 5 Odyssey Forum, it may take a day or less for someone to respond back to you. But most of the people here will respond and attempt to steer you to correcting your problems.

I would recommend you to purchase at Amazon a
GB401000A 12V Boost Plus UltraSafe Jump Starter
this device will allow you to jump start your ODY if the battery drains to low to start your ODY. Have another person show you how to hook-up to your battery unless your savvy enough to follow it's instructions. Put it you glove box or center console for safe keeping. The reason I am saying to purchase this is that if you do a lot of short drives with your ODY through out the day, the battery will discharge substantially and you will not be able to start your ODY. Minimal drive time should be up to 25 minutes to full charge your battery, this 25 minutes is driving non-stop for 25 minutes unless it involves not shutting off the engine. Good luck with your purchase and decisions!
