Are the alloy wheels on the Hondas clearcoated? I can't understand why manufacturers won't use adhesive wheel weights rather than the knock-on type. After being balanced a couple of times, there is some major scarring to the wheels. If clearcoated, possible problems down the road. Just wondering.

Yes. Honda OEM wheel weights do not have the barbs on them, like those designed for steel wheels, and are contoured to fit in the circumferential shelf so that they will not fly off. They will stay on better and longer than tape-a-weights, and will not cut into the clear coat.

Insist your balancer use OEM type weights and make him show you a sample beforehand. Better shops should have them. Or else, buy or beg some OEM weights from your dealer (I have saved all my old weights), and replace the barbed weights installed by Joe Six-pack when you get home. Ask if they can balance to the nearest gram, if possible.
