I followed the OP's steps described in the link below to modify the Footwell lights on my 2016 Touring. It was an easy fix and worked well to brighten the ambient footwell lights.

I now have a 2018 Elite, and the stock footwell lights are definitely better than the stock 2016's, but not quite as bright as the modified 2016 lights.

Has anyone looked into doing this modification on the '18? Just wanted to seek feedback before I start disassembling. Thanks in advance!

I went ahead and did the mod. The steps are essentially the same as the 2011-17's in the link above so I won't repeat. If anything the '18 seemed a bit easier.

One difference I noticed was that the cap over the blue LED is whiteish-gray, which explains why I felt the stock light was slightly better than the previous model.

I highly recommend this easy mod to anyone that likes the blue glow. The only negative I see is that the glow on the driver side is offset to the left, while the passenger side is too far back. This makes the light unevenly distributed. But oh well.

Reviving an old thread rather than starting a new one. Has it been confirmed that the light comes out uneven? Or is it acceptable?

It's due to the position of the light mounting locations themselves, not the modification which makes them brighter. Driver's side to the left of center, passenger to the front of van.
Can confirm, the lights are not positioned in the center so no matter how much or how little shines it will not be centered. If it means anything the ambient lights in my Tesla Model 3 aren't centered either.

does it mean I can just slice in or tap into the existing honda footwell lighting?
You could. I just received the Honda OEM foot lights last night and will test them when it gets dark tonight. I'll see if they're any good before drilling the cover.

The plastic seems to be white or light blue, so may be enough to get light through.

I believe all trims are prewired, EX-L is prewired for sure
Thanks. I will definitely think about doing this. If it is prewired, do I just need the lights I linked above? It's kinda crazy that those two lights are $75, since the wiring harness is already there, per the installation instructions. Are there any aftermarket items that anyone has tried and liked?

some used amazon leds and had good results, definitely brighter, but for most these are fine. I don't like them tbh, not a huge fan of blue lights anywhere near my car lol
you need just lights, they are plug and play.
Search on ebay for above part numbers, see Serega's pics for part number, those are cheaper on ebay
Sorry @serega12 for hijacking the thread lol
