Anyone installed the 6-disc CD changer?

handa-accessories.com sells the Honda 6-disc CD changer for $450 and I am thinking about buying it. Did anyone install this in their vehicle? If so, how difficult is it to install? Thanks again.

None of the Honda vehicles are prewired. Any aftermarket or factory changer will plug into the back of the radio, you will then need to run a cable to the changer location. This may involve running it down the door sills etc.

I install compatible OEM changers (not factory branded units). Although I haven't installed a OEM changer into an Odyssey yet, it will probably go under one of the front seats. Ironically, we worked on a CRV today. Here is the article if you want to take a look at what is involved.

We have about 15 more articles on OEM compatible changer installations located at http://www.autotoys.com/tech (click TECH SUMMARY and scroll to HONDA)

Hondas are great cars to work in. Especially for the DIYers.

OddyNewbie,

For $450, I think you're talking about the in-dash 6 disc changer. If so, the install is quite easy. If you want an external changer, you can consider the Honda one for about $100 less or the 10 disc one that Toyman is describing, for about $200 less, but the install is more involved. I have the 10 disc and it works quite well.

Hey toyman,

I probably should have asked sooner but I just ordered the:
OEMHONDAIIAUX HONDA/ACURA: 1998+ ACCORD, ALL 1999-2000+ MODELS EXCEPT PASSPORT - COMPATIBLE CHANGER PLUG IN TYPE II (6 DISC)[DELUXE WITH AUX INPUT]

and

POWER ANTENNA REMOTE MOUNT (FOR TIGHT AREAS).

Will these work with the Odyssey?

I cannot comment on the Power Antenna install. I have not looked in the fender where the front antenna is installed. When you get the unit, trial fit the product first. If it does not fit, email us and we'll credit you on the antenna.

The CD changer combo you purchased is correct. It is the smallest changer we sell. It also has 2 RCA inputs (stereo) on the converter itself. On our converter will be a small wire, when grounded, it will switch the factory radio from the cd changer audio to the RCA inputs of the converter (you can feed your in car video sound or MP3, or whatever on these RCA inputs).

To install the changer. Remove the trim bezel around your radio. It snaps out. (carefully do this). There will be four 8mm screws holding the radio in place. Remove these screws.

On the back of the radio will be a blue molex cd changer plug opening. (or black)

This is a picture off a CIVIC, but the port size and shape will be the same (see arrow)

Plug in our converter, plug in changer cable to converter, run down GLOVE compartment side, run down door sill, mount changer under seat, plug in changer. Turn on car. You are done.

Good luck.

Toyman, can you mention what brand are you selling for the Honda 1999+ OEM units? Alpine? Clarion? Other?

One more question to toyman (or anyone).

Can anyone identify the function of the pinouts on the molex connector on the stock headunit?

I assume one of them is used to control the power on to the cd changer (or tape player). I want to use this to control the power antenna.

Yes, I am talking about the in-dash 6-disc changer that I can just pop into the slot right under the existing single-disc player that came with the EX. By the way, does this in-dash 6-disc work in conjunction with the existing single-disc player OR do I have to remove the single-disc player? My assumption right now is that they works in conjunction of each other.

Dont tap the CD changer wires. Tap the Tuner + wire which will shut off (no + with the radio) . Here is some photos I took, the pin with the test light is the right one. It lights 12 volt with tuner on only. It seems the radio label is wrong.

Ahh well.

OddyNewbie,

Yes, you will have access to all 7 discs. The CD button will toggle between the internal disc and the changer. The steering wheel control will move you to the next track, but not the next disc.

Lorax,

Please let us know how you make out with the antenna (I'm sure you will).
