Never heard of it. The 5 recommended disable devices are recommended for a reason. They're known to be quality products with excellent customer service.

Completely agree. Not sure why someone would risk using this AST product compared to proven products.

I have been using VCMTUNER II for 4 years and 59K miles - has worked like a charm the entire time.

There's an article about it here from the guy who made it. I don't want one with resistors you have to change and I'm not paying 150$ for the vcm2 because that's just crazy. Plus everytime I go to look it's out of stock and backordered and I need one now. I have my vvt/VTEC/spool valve unhooked right now because my van has 303k and I was literally burning a quart of oil every few days and since I unhooked the sensor I haven't burned or used any. Maybe before hating on something you guys should read about it. Because it's not some cheap ebay crap. It's an automatic muzzler that was created by an owner of an 08 accord that has years and years of experience in this kind of stuff.

I was just simply hoping someone here has used it and could give me a yay or nay about it. I've read your guide many times. I know all about this vcm thing. Again I was just hoping someone could tell me their experience with it.

Nobody is stopping you from using it. But there's also S-VCM which is cheaper if you so choose and is also automatic.

Maybe you should do a little more research then before you bash products. Because it's not some cheap ebay crap. It's a legitimate product created by someone who owns an 08 accord. Go read about it from their website. And go read the post on here from the creator of it.

Yeah that's again 100$ which is ridiculous. This is only 70$. Go read the post on here from the creator of it. Don't understand why nobody commented or showed this thing any love at all. You have to give other people credit and especially when it's one person that owns a VCM vehicle designing it that has a lot of experience

You could say that about the originals as well. They're all designed by people who own VCM vehicles themselves.

I'm not in the market for a new muzzler device, so I have no plans to research it at this time and was just sharing my opinion. VCMTUNER II and S-VCM have both been out for years and there are numerous people who have bought and installed them with great results.

It might be a great product, and if no one actually chimes in with having experience with it, you could always take a chance, buy it, and report on the Mega thread about your experience with it to help others. I created a thread after getting the VCMTUNER II to share my experience since it had only been out for a few months and few people had experience with it.

Has anyone here used the AST muzzler? Just curious on the thoughts about it
Don’t even think about it. There are several well known options recommended here. This is not one of them. It may be great but why take a chance? What is the advantage or benefit of this one?

For some reason I decided to take a look at the AST website.

It appears that the "Smart ECO VCM Single Value" is a single resistor based unit for $70. I'm not sure why, but there is a thermal switch that is supposed to be in contact with the engine but it didn't really explain its purpose. There is a Variable unit which has a knob to change resistance values, for a whopping $600. It also has a thermal switch and also has a switch to turn it off for emission testing.

These in my opinion would not be even as good as the MaxMuzzler, VCMuzzler II, or VCMTuner which are all adjustable either by swapping resistors or turning a knob to change resistance values, let alone the active S-VCM or VCMTuner II devices. The AST variable unit is a complete rip off IMHO.

Well that explains it. Sounds like this standard AST unit is basically equivalent to the original VCMuzzler with only one resistor (like the type @thscott and some others have).

And the knob version is just a ripoff of the VCMTuner I...

You said you did not want a resistor-based product, which is what this is for $70. You might as well get the VCMuzzler II. To get what you want from this company would cost $800!

BTW, I have the original VCMuzzler with a single 82 ohm resistor. I've never had to change the resistor and have never had the ECO light come on.

Odyman, don't worry about a single resistor unit, as I've also had mine for 6 years without a problem. Note, my VCM will come on for a few seconds on hot days, but that is a non-issue!

Regarding forum acceptance of new things, there was quite a bit of back-and-forth when the VCM Tuner came out to challenge the VCM Muzzler. That said, as the Muzzler and Tuner are proven, and they have a very large user base, it is probably wise to stick with them. The last thing you want to be is stuck on the road on a dark and stormy night!

I wish this had been the first reply in this thread. Thank you for an informative, level-headed reply with actual effort.

Others claiming simply that "it's an unknown device and therefore should be avoided" is a false line of reasoning. EVERY VCM device was unknown when it was created. And yet somehow, some people decided to buy them anyway.
